Default STi order and delivery notification

For what it's worth - my dealer called and took my color and equipment order (wow - carpets and radio!) yesterday. The car will be delivered directly after Rim of the World rally in mid to late May.

The price is yet to be released, but their info is 30% above WRX cost. They didn't want any deposit since there are no official SOA orders yet, but this dealer has been asked to submit their first delivery requests. The first three cars will go to Prodrive, then to the public. Apparently Prodrive expects a big market for their bolt-on stuff and has some juice with SOA since the dealer was asked to accomodate them by SOA.

I thought some of you might be interested in this information, but I am not looking for any "if you believe a dealer, you must be on medication" comments. I know the people at Irvine Subaru very personally and have every reason to believe they told me everything they know. Unless something changes, the cars will be here mid May and be priced just north of $30K.

Here's we go again with conflicting dealer info...

I got a call yesterday from the GM at my dealer. SOA rep was at the dealer yesterday & they decided to start making calls to see who was still interested. Their list has ~65 people on it.

MSRP will be $31-33k. They will begin getting cars the end of June. The people at the dealership will not have an opportunity to drive cars until sometime in May at a zone event.

Hi everyone!

Mitsubishi dealers (most in California) were also claiming they could not or would not take deposits. The reason is clear as they are asking $40 to $45k for the car. (50% markup). The non-deposit lists were useless. The dealers are going down the list offering the car to the highest bidder. I expect to see the same tactics from a number of Subaru dealers.

I have the number 1 deposit at my local Suby dealership. I put $500 down on a credit card, they photocopied my DL and filled out a one page sheet that contained two questions. Car color and wheel color. I was told that the info was fax to SOA. This occurred in early January. This is a small dealership and I do not have a lot of confidence they will get a car, however, my "sheet" was sent in during the time SOA was going through allocations. A crap shoot at best IMHO.

I bought my car from Van Bortel. I actually know Kitty, I really don't think she would do something like charing a ridiculous mark up. Even though she could probably get away with it.

$400 over invoice as always, tho she could get a lot more & knows it. It's just not how she does business - which keeps me (and a lot of others) going back there...

Hi,

I didn't mean to imply your dealer was deceiving you. The only incentive they have (dealers) to not gouge is long-term customer relations. Good luck!

I think the US government should transfer our most secret information to car dealerships. The information would never get out consistently, accurately or timely. It would be safe.

Four after the three Prodrive units. But it doesn't matter to me as long as a car is available for a reasonable deal, like MSRP and maybe some other consideration. Good luck to you also.

According to Desiree, I was #2 on the list..but I get the feeling I'm not because Dan said I'm top 10 after I reiterated what Desiree said. Also, when Dan called me to ask what color, options I would like, he didn't tell me about the prices or release date (said he'd figure out next month). Just wonderin how you got this info and I didn't.

I've been on this waiting list for 1.5 years. I know top 10 is very high since Irvine Subaru will receive more STi's than any other dealer, but the waiting list positions don't seem too concrete. Anyone else on the waiting list seem to get shifted around also?

it sounds to me like dealers are breaking their lists into color preference, so depending on how many of which color they get, your number may change. If you're willing to take any color, you could probably get one sooner. For $30k, I say wait for the color you really want, though.

I think robmarch is correct. But not to worry, it appears the first several cars will arrive at the same time so they all will be available very nearly the same day.

Frankly I think it kind of slipped out, something like a wet fart! You know, when you don't mean to and you would like to take it back? I am a worker at the Rim of The World Rally, and during conversation about the rally, Dan mentioned the details I reported.

Since you seem to be so far away from Irvine, if you want to, we can switch places if it helps your schedule any. I don't really care what my position is, just that a car is available. Let me know off line if you think this will help any.
