89' Subaru RX turbo--Bigger turbos??

I might be buying a 89 Rx tubo 5-speed.
Does anybody know if I can get a bigger turbo for this car?
Please let me know if I can and where I can get one.
Or maybe some place I could have the stock turbo rebuilt and worked.

Not sure about the turbo replacement, But a neighbor had one that was pretty modded out ,it was one bad motha'. If I can find one in my area I'm all over it.

Wern't the RX's equipped with RHB5 aka (IHI VF-10) Turbo's? Same as the Legacy turbo? If so then you could shove a TD05-16 on there or any VF series made for Subaru's. And you'd have a serious power package.

I test drove it yesterday and it runs real good

I'm not sure what turbo it has but when I bring it home I will clean up the engine and try to find out. IF, it stops raining.

One thing though, it needs some front rotors.

Does anybody know if the RS rotors and rims will fit the RX?

Then I could just buy new brakes for my RS and put my RS brakes on the RX. (my excuse to buy something new for my car)

Since when has rain ever stopped a subaru? Hell, I take wet pavement as a reason to accelerate from stoplights simply because it feels like I'm saying a big F.U. to newton and his so called "laws of physics"

Your absolutely right! Rain has never stopped a Subaru but it will stop me from standing out in it just to clean up the engine.

I'd look at a Legacy turbo turbocharger which is a fair bit bigger, or a 87-88 T-bird turbocharger. The Legacy one will require the upper flange on the crossover pipe (header) to be changed, as will the T-bird turbo, but from what I've heard you can use a downpipe from teh leg turbo where you would have to make a custom one for the T-bird turbo. T-bird turbo is bigger and uses a garret T3 flange setup IIRC so upgrade path from there is better. Both turbos are IHI's

bringin back a very old post. For those of you looking to mod a older Subaru more like the '80s, the TD04 will fit onto them with minor mods done to the uppipe and then you can use an aftermarket downpipe. Also, you can add in the WRX top mount intercooler too. I'm currently putting this setup on my '89 RX which will be runnin great this evening.
