Post Driving School

I was wondering if anyone knew of any good driving schools in California? I would say that I am a competent driver but not an awesome driver. The WRX can do so much (like taking a 25 mph turn at 60) but if the driver can't take advantage of that, it might as well not be there. I looked at Skip Barbers page but it seemed a little expensive. Are there other schools that are just as good or is Skip really worth that?

You might check with your regional SCCA chapter. They sometimes host performance driving clinics.

contact your local BMW club, they put on some great schools my area (Atlanta, GA) and at the schools there are usually a wide variety of cars. At the last one at Road Atlanta there was everything from Integras to Vettes. Only about half of the class was BMWs. Highly recommended.

Here's two:

The Alfa club of So Cal has a good 2 day school at Streets of Willow in April and October every year. It's the best deal around,$165 for 2 days. Here's a url:

Also, go to: http://www.tracquest.com They run on big tracks like Laguna Seca, SearsPoint, etc.

I went to the Russell Racing School. I would recommend it, it's saved my life more than once.

The Alfa School sounds like a really good deal. Do you know where they hold the school at?

Alfa club holds the 2 day school on Willow Springs "Streets" course and the skid pad. Use the url I posted to their site and get more info. Murphy's law (for you), the April school was last weekend and yes I was there.

They have time trials and races at lots of tracks. I think you can drive in those with stock seat belts in an "intro" group. But, you don't get classroom and skid pad time. The skid pad kinda sucks with AWD unless the instructor just pulls the ebrake on you by surprise. It's a blast in a rear drive car tho.
