Default EVO 8 @ Mistsubishi Serramonte

I took a look at the car today.

MSRP $29K
They want about $40K for the car!! Who are they kidding...

They have 3 on stock (white, blue & red)
The Blue is not even comparable to the WRX's blue.. Ours is a better blue...

I think I like it in red, it hides the altezza-ish lights better

Only 40,000? The roseville dealership is asking 45,000...

$40K for that car. Wait 5 months and watch them rotting on the lot, next to the 350Z on the Nissan dealer next door.

For some reason they don't have any G35 coupes though ... I stopped by the Infiniti dealer after checking out the Evo

I kinda like that electric blue. Not sure if Id get that color tho.

He said theres a breif brake in period. 600 miles on the engine til you can rev above 5k and 200mi on the brakes before you test for 150-0 stops

Hi Jason, first R/X at Thunderhill on 4-19.
I hear he paid $6K over MSRP!! That makes the EVO a $35K Car!
I think Mitsubishi has made up my mind for me!

I work at a Mitsu dealer now in the LA area and we are asking $49k... I will probably get $40k for it with a customer on Fri. Santa Monica Mitsu sold 2 today for $53k.

If Mitsubishi ramps up production like subaru has on the WRX I'm sure we'll see 'em going for a few hundred over invoice from a few select "cool" dealers. Right now it's priced just like any other hot new car

Default I don't get it...

I can see the 'me first me first' thing, and can imagine how cool it would be to be one of the first people to drive around in one, but is it worth $6,000-$24,000 just for that? How long does it last - a few months? I remember the 1st 350Z sold for around $70k. Whoop-te-ding-dong-doo. Now the car has just depreciated to half what he paid for it. But he was first!

Never mind that this money-wasting perpetuates this behaviour with the dealers, and makes them still think they can ask $5k over for a 350Z. A guy in Fresno told me that, as I glanced down the row of the dealer's entire allotment of cars... "cuz we can get it" he says. You can, huh. Wonder how many are still there.

I guess I am just missing something. Sure, I am not rich - but even if I were, doesn't seem smart to flush $$ down the hole.

Neat car though. It will probably be a serious head turner for oh, I'd say 3 months till the STi comes out.

yet another example of why one should not buy a new model offering immediately.

I'm surprised people haven't learned from the recent past.

let's see:

Miata: once sold for 200% of sticker when first introduced, look at residual value NOW.

S2000: once had a 10-20K markup, before time and demand brought the price to reasonable levels

PT Cruiser: another 200% markup car when introduced (IT'S A FREAKING NEON WAGON!!), residuals are in the gutter as well.

350Z: another victim of the overpriced "it's a new car" mindset that is now languishing in the dealerships because they can't sell them, thanks in part to the G35 coupe (the irony of it is laughable)

The same mentality may affect the pricing of the STi when it's released, unless Subaru enforces a very strict no markup policy the way some manufacturers have. The manufacturers are the ones that have to force this, seeing as they are hurt the most when the residual values of their vehicles tank because of idiotic dealerships and idiotic buyers who perpetuate the massive markups for "the hottest new car." I hope the STi and any other "new to the US" model (A3, skyline, etc) don't suffer this fate.

A fool and his money are soon parted, and there are a lot of fools around car dealerships when the newest models come out.

Hahaha, ***? 53k? Damn, I guess that guy really wants it. When in fact, he could have bought a R33 skyline from Motorex.

I don't get it...

I bought my WRX, the day they came out (March 13, 2001) and I paid MSRP for it. (although I put a deposit on it in January)

I know dealers are sleazy, but DAyyyyyyyyyum! 67% markup is just rude.

I wish buying a car was like buying, say, a TV.

A buddy of mine paid $48K for an Audi TT when they first came out, this means he bought a 1.8L 180hp FWD for almost $50K, I even warned him not to buy it and wait 5 months. I love the suckers that come out first. The same thing is going to happend w/ the STI and when I buy it for thousands less I'll be doing this:

Ok, guys i went and test drove one last night. it was a great test drive. took it out on the highway and back roads. there is no turbo lag and lots of tq. The sales manager that i was dealing with told me, that if i wanted one he would give it to me for 30K out the door.
