Default Thunderhill Track Day

Hey y'all,

Let's get another Subie contingent for the Thunderhill NASA event. There is one coming up on April 5-6. I've signed up for the 6th only so far. Anybody else going?

I just signed up for both days. I may not make it for the first day, have to get off work Friday as I have a long drive from San Luis Obispo. What is the course like?

Default I will most likely be there

Unfortunately not driving though - flippin' burgers, cookin' chicken and bumming rides. Mebbe I can bum some laps in a WRX - that would be sweeeeet.

BobbyT-Cool. Thunderhill is a great course. Nice n' smooth. The course map is available on the T-Hill web-page. We'll be running the full course. Hopefully it won't get too hot out there.

Wombatsauce-you can hitch a ride with me. Blue wagon, gold tarmac wheels, #12 (most likely), group 3. Bring a helmet.

Just rolled my car last night. Not paying attention when I clearly should have been! Put's a wrench in my weekend, unless I can buy a new one and put 1000 miles on it by then!!

I've signed up for Sunday. I feel comfortable with my setup to finally make it to track events. Give me time to get out of the super newbie slot.

I might be up there on saturday. I wont be running but, helping out my cousin with his race car. He runs the number 3 American Iron Mustang. If you have a chance you should check out the race. They are usually quite competitive.

Man that sucks balls.... At least judging by the humor, you are ok. If you need help with getting to that 1,000 mile mark on the next one though, you know where to ask!

Nice to see you guys out there. A couple others not on the board showed up. Some of you should not be in Group 1/2, though. Next time, join me in Group 3.
CupertineSteve- What happened to you on the 3rd session? Too much fun? I was waiting for that ride.
I hope everyones day was trouble free.

Default Heh..

One of these days, I swear, my car will be running right, I will have a free weekend and there will be a NASA HPDE. Shoot - I haven't been on a track in over a year and never once in my WRX. Crap!

Hope everyone had fun. My buddy in his Z06 busted a tie rod, but other than that I didn't hear of any carnage.

My co-worker, Larry, was there last weekend with his white MGB GT. He was an instructor and said both of his students were in WRX's. Was that anyone here?

I was there on Sunday. But my instructor was Woody. He drove the black benelli. I had an awsome time. Staying in HPDE1 to have Woody show me the line in Infineon. But other than that he said I could move up.

One of his students did drive a white WRX but he is not on this board. I pitted with him. That was a sweet MGB. It/Larry was pretty fast.

Hi All,
Rallytime - sorry man ... i drove by the hot pits to see if you were waiting for me to come in the next lap. I guess I didn't see you. I owe you a ride.

I think other Steve (head of the day's HPDEs) was driving the MG too. That thing is so cool. I believe he was leading a silver wagon during the last session (lead-follow thing).

After Pierre signed my passport and discussed the day's events and what I wanted to do in the future. I noticed he had me skip HPDE2 and told me to just go to HPDE 3 next time. Woohoo ... i guess I'll be seeing Rallytime on the track in May (right?). During the last session I went out alone (wife bailed out last minute) ... Pierre timed my laps (which I later found out was a no-no) ... I was averaging 2:21 per lap (with tons of traffic and being very courteous - since it was the last session of the day and funny things tend to happen).

Anyone going to Thunderhill on the 18th with Unlimitedlaps?

Steve

That's a good lap time assuming it was the full track running counterclockwise (NASA ususally runs T-Hill counter clockwise with the bypass at 5). I know two guys who run about 2.0-2.10 in Z06's with little traffic. This is running the bypass though which saves you a little time. I have never driven the bypass, just been a passenger and it feels WEIRD. I hate off camber turns like that. The cyclone is fun anyway...

Awesome track though, 14-15 is my only problem area. 6-9 is flat out in my little Celica (no power plus light car). Can't wait to get on there in the WRX.

my best time for CCW + cyclone + little traffic is a 2:14 (I was white knuckled the whole time)

a few months ago, I told my instructor to drive me in MY car to show me what it can do. Same configuration above, with him talking to me, pointing at stationary markers and running into a bunch of traffic ... he rattled off a 2:04. After I cleaned my shorts ... he told me that he left a bit on table since he didn't want to break my car or spin in it (shifting just above 6000 rpm).

It scary to know that people are that good with cars they aren't familiar with. I guess its something to strive for.
