Default NSX v. 911 v. Z06...Which To Choose???

A good friend of mine wants to *significantly* upgrade from his Porsche Boxster (not the "S").

He wants a sporty car with good quality.

Out of the 3 mentioned, the Z06 is by far the quickest and the least expensive...however...it also lacks hardcore in the "fit and finish" category.

I think that's out of the question.

The NSX v. Carrera is an age old question. It pretty much comes down to a Japan/German war. I mean, they're both mid-engine, RWD cars...and their engines are really incredible. They both sound intoxicating both inside and outside the cars.

I believe the NSX is a tad more expensive...and it doesn't come in a fully convertible form...which sucks because it's a beautiful car.

He's even considered a Lotus V8 Esprit Turbo since they're selling pretty "cheap" here in SoCal.

The winner?

Anyway, to sum it up with a change of pace...he's heavily leaning toward an SL500 since it's elegant, quick, beautiful, and well-built.

Not a GT2?

I've driven a GT2...and I must say that it's spoiled all my driving experiences since that moment.

Nothing can compare...

Isn't the GT2 a little more powerful than the GT3?

I was reading that the GT3 is the step between a Turbo and a GT2...maybe I'm wrong.

yes, the GT2 will still be the top of the line until the carrera GT comes... I said get the GT3 because its not as expensive as the GT2, but it will still crush all the cars you mentioned...

be sure to tell your friend that he's got it pretty good. Just remind him. Not that I'm complaining, since I've been trying to justify a STi to my wife and we could realistically get one, but still, a decision like your friend's isn't too shabby.

Carrera vs NSX:

Carrera is better value than NSX if bought NEW (Carrera has amazing resale value) I'd get a RWD Carrera Coupe which is lighter than either the Targa of Cabrio.
NSX is better value than Carrera if bought a few years used (NSX resale is relatively poor making it a great used buy)

ZO6 vs Boxster S:

Boxster S by a slight margin because it excels in ways that cannot be explained by numbers.

I have only drive two cars that are similar to the ones above mentioned, so my comments are only partially applicable. I have driven the following cars:

Carrera (never driven one)
NSX (never driven one)
Corvette ZO6 (Lingerfelter twin-turbo 550bhp) I have never driven a stock Z06.

Boxster (non-S)

Porsche, there is no substitute. Anyone who has driven one knows the feeling.

911 C4s. The NSX is nice, but not for the $$$. And, the Z06 is great if performance is the top goal, but if he's leaning toward a MB SL, he's going to be disappointed in the interior.

of your choices, I'd go with the C4s.

I'd also recommend the M5, if he doesn't want a slushbox.

he could buy a zo6 and an STI for the price of an NSX (the z06 might have to be one year old). Why not look at a new viper SRT-10 or a final edition GTS? I'd take the viper over a c4 or nsx anyday.

Don't get a NSX, they're overpriced, overrated and underpowered. I'd go for the Carrera, I believe they even have an AWD version. I mean come on, it's a frigging Porsche.
