Default Mosquito Ridge Rd drive (again) 3/8

We're meeting in Folsom, at the mall's parking at the corner of Folsom-Auburn & Greenback, the one with the 76 station. 8:30am in the morning. The earlier the less chance of meeting cars on the twisties. Don't get too drunk tonight

Route: Salmon Falls Rd -> hw 49 -> Mosquito Ridge Road

What time do you think you will be at the Mosquito Ridge Rd? I'd rather just drive straight to it from Davis.

I'll bring my cell phone with me for anyone that goes straight to Mosquito Ridge Road or is running late:

Mike

ps: just finished my engine mounts. Those rear bolts are a royal PITA. As soon as I stop the bleeding I'm going to bed so I can get up early and drive!

3rd time I couldn't make it, don't have any reason this time just too early. At least next time there is a run up Mosquito Ridge I won't have re-92's to worry about.

Well, the drive was a blast. Thanks to Steve and Alan for the original write up on this road. It was fun and mostly deserted.

We made a nice little loop: Salmon Falls Road to Hwy49 to Old Foresthill Road to Foresthill Road to Mosquito Ridge to Snow and back again.

Can't wait for the snow to melt. We'll have to have a big meet at the end of the road in May.

Here's some pics I took. I donwsized them for the 56k folks:

That SpecC Suspension holds the road real well. But I think he was holding back since Matt is on RE92's. We didn't want to make him feel bad on his first ride with fellow Suby owners.

Next week on the way to Berryessa is a different story!

Thanks Those tires are okay, but they suck at the limit. I really want to get some Falken Azenis How are they holding up for you, Mike?

Here are the pics my gf took. I posted three as a teaser and linked the rest since some of us may still be on dialup.

Lake Berryessa is west of Davis, North of Vacaville/Fairfield. Its about a 25 min drive to Monticello Dam from Davis through Winters. Heading west its a a good fun drive after Winters and by the lake. Ive never really been very far after the dam.

I've been very happy with these tires. I think I have 14,000 miles or so on them and they have quite a bit of tread left. They are a great dry tire and they work pretty good in the rain too. However, I would not even think of driving in snow with these.

Mine are the Azenis ST115 in 225/45 17. They were only $112 at America's Tire Co. when I got them last year.

Sweet. I really like the Azenis. My friend has them on his MR2. I think my first mod will be the front and rear three way sway bar, then maybe tires and I'll save up some cash so I can decide if I want to do some springs or coilovers.

I have this bad feeling that I'm getting bit by the bug I'm gonna be broke soon.

Here's the link to the Lake Berryessa meet. The Sac folks are going to caravan from the Natomas Mall at Truxell. I-80 to 113 towards Woodland to Covell Blvd. Hang a left and stay on Covell (which turns into E6 or Road 31). This will go right through Winters and become HWY128. I don't know exactly where the meet is going to be, but I expect somewhere along the west end of the lake like Spanish Flat.

Any more pics?

Drive was great except the return trip has too much traffic on hw49 + salmon falls road! And it sucks that we were stuck behind cars on hw49 ... cuz those downhill hairpins are awesome at speed > 20 mph The only boring part of the drive was on Foresthill Road. It would be cool if there is a twisty detour

I don't know about the others but I was pretty comfortable at the pace I was running. Didn't want to push it since there were all those rocks on the road, plus you never know when you may encounter some wildlife.

I really liked the pace. Since I'm new to both AWD and the WRX, I'm still learning how the car reacts.

I was happy with todays pace although some corners did catch me a bit by surprise. Thankfully the WRX handles very predicatbly. Even though the pace was a bit fast, the only true way to get faster is to follow a better driver, so I didn't mind a bit.

I really had a great time Can't wait for some more trips.
