Default oil change..check for leaks...

i just recently moved her from LA... and i noticed yesterday that my car was leaking oil....
im supposed to drive back down to LA this weekend to pick up the rest of my belongings...
i think i should get this checked out before i go,...but i cannot take a day off to go down to SC subaru....

is there another dealer that is closer to san jose, that anyone can recommend?

i would usually try fixing it myself, but all of my tools are in LA....

id like to get this solved before friday if possible.

THANKS!!!!

for something like oil leak.

DEFINATELY get it checked.

DO NOT GO TO STEVEN'S CREEK SUBARU!

i recommend:
carlsen subaru in redwood city (as for kevin the mechanic -- he's the man)
santa cruz subaru in santa cruz (ask for chris --- well we're still not sure if he's a man... though he kinda looks like one )

good luck.

u have any idea where its coming from?

what mods do u have?

Default i checked it again..

yes i have mods, uppipe, and downpipe..
.. so im hesitant to take it just anywhere... santa cruz is just too damn far... id have to take a day off work...

i just checked it again.. my oil filter was very very loose!!! i tightened it as much as i could with my hand.... hopefully that will help. I only noticed oil leaking down the oil filter,.... no where else... the strange thing is my dipstick still reads full....

what would be the closest, mod friendly, dealer to san jose?

thanks again!!!!

You should only tighten the oil filter by hand...~3/4 of a turn past when the gasket first contacts the engine. It's pretty tight but not skull crushingly tight...I'd just clean it all up down there and check it again after a day. And top off the oil if you lost a significant amount.

i just went out and checked it again... defintly the oil filter is leaking... i tightened it by hand this morning (it was so loose it thought i could have easily untwisted and fallen off!!) and now its down to a minor drip...if that..

this scared the crap out of me... i cant imagine what would happen if the oil filter fell off on the freeway... i assume my engine and turbo would be toast...

im driving back to LA on friday, so im going to try to get off work and see a dealer before then...hopefully someplace closer than santa cruz.
thanks for the help!

It sounds like you have imagined what would happen - your engine and turbo would be toast!

How much oil leaked out? Sounds like you got lucky...

Welcome to the bay area, btw.
