Default Consumer Reports 2003 Car Guide lists STi price as $29K

They do list the STi specs (even though they display the 03 model.) Their $29k figure is estimated, but it can't hurt to be optimistic. It is possible that this car may come in under 30k. CR sure seems to think it will.

Fingers crossed.

That would be huge. I'm still skeptical, but...if Subaru really wants to crush the Evo's mounting charge, this would do it.

If the price is infact a chip under $30,000 that would be just as exciting as the day we all found out the car came out.

I seem to recall that was the original estimate and they haven't changed it.

I think we need to start a thread like the one before the STi stats came out:

"What do you call an WRX STi with a 2.5L?"

but for this subject:

"What do you call an WRX STi that costs under $30,000"

I'll admit that I've been considering a few other cars on the market lately but with a sub 30K price Subaru would have my full attention again. I'm holding on to my #1 slot until all the facts are known.

I'd crap myself. Just like I did when the car's specs were announced.

Then, I'd clean up my shorts and start begging the wife to get one this year before they jack up the price. (I'm confident that there'll be some available late in the year, after the MSRP wrangling is done).

IMHO
The way the US $ is falling against other countries it will be 35k by the time the STI is in the dealers.

Sold? I'd write a check so fast...

I'm putting off buying anything in hopes that the WRX will be upgraded to 2.5 liters. But I'd bust my budget without blinking for a $29,999.99 STi

At this point I am more concerned about insurance cost rather than the cars cost. I figure the STi will be anywere from 30-34K. But insurance could range anywere from 150-400 a month. Actually one guy on evolutionm.net said we was quoted 10K a year on a EVO We was 17 but still, that is nutz.

It will only go higher when idiots start crashing it at test
drives!!! (someone already crashed one... right at the dealership)

I hope this will not happen to STi....

i agree that mid 30's is probably about right, but maybe it's possible that subaru doesn't want to compete with the evo in the us market. they may want to bury it.

around the world the evo is generally considered to be a better car, and i'm sure that hurts subaru's feelings (not to mention it's markert share). by bringing a better STi and selling it for the same price as the evo they would stand a chance of taking over the us market pretty completely. additionally they would firmly establish their sporting image. the us market is huge to just about every car company so this might be worthwhile.

probably just wishful thinking on my part, but what if...
