Thumbs up Test drove the EVO VIII

I went to the dealer to check out all the hype about the new Evo. I didnít think I would end up test driving the car but I guess stopping by during lunch hour in business attire helps. The car looks like one of the cars in the movie Fast and the Furious and the FMIC looks intimidating. I checked out the car, sat in it, and told the sales guy Iíd have to check with the Wife and my insurance company to proceed to the next step. I did tell them that I was looking for another car to replace my commuter. The sales manager asked me if I wanted to test drive the car and I initially resisted knowing that the devil inside of me was yelling Ė Hell Yes! Well he pulls the car out of the lot and we switch seats.

Coming from a Subaru WRX wagon with the Vishnu Stage 2 installed and no suspension modifications YET, I can tell you that the turbo spools like my old Vishnu Stage 0 with more torque and top end. Compared to the Stage 2 the Evo seems a little short in HP and torque on top (only way to tell is a street/track/dyno comparison). The most obvious difference between this car and my wagon is the suspension and the noise level (Subaru is quiet and comfortable) but the steering feel on the Evo is at another level. The steering is very tight and quick. It feels like the car was made for the track not the street. The suspension is obviously sports tuned and the initial feel is that of confidence. The tires are sticky and firm but need to be rotated every 2K miles and are only rated to last 20K according to the sales guy (must be part of the sales training on the car). If I test drove this when I bought my WRX, I think I would have ended up with an Evo. After spending the money on new tires, rims, Vishnu Stage 0, Stage 2 and other things, I have already exceeded 30K and I still donít have the suspension and brakes. I canít wait for the STI. Itís possible my wife may end up with a WRX wagon if it is better than the Evo! They had the Red, Yellow and Silver model in the showroom. I would probably buy the Silver if I got one. 2004 will be a great year for Japanese cars.

Fairfield Mitsubishi. They have the yellow and red one parked outside.

Haha. I test drove one there too. They caught me off guard when they asked me if i wanted to take one out.

That car is sweet. It looks a lot better in person. And it handles great. I shouldnt have drove it though. I fell in love with it. And it made my stock WRX feel sluggish afterwards.

Tis a good year to be buying a new car. so many to chose from. EVO, STi, SRT-4, RX-8, R32, G35/350Z...

i drove one today, great car man is that thing stiff as shiat! Over all i would have to say that it would beat a wrx stock for stock no prob. once you start getting into stages thu that is a diff story.

I did laugh once the guy asked me what i drove and i told him a wrx, he said well you can trade that in and we can park it next to our evo. My response was, not to be a dick but that would prob work against you.

mmuuhaahahahahahaaaaaa

maybe if i land the job i want ill get one for a commuter.

The WRX is in a completly different class than the EVO... of course it would be expected to beat it. The STI is more equal against the EVO.

I cant believe they have 3 evo's AND are giving test drives. What is the markup on those cars?
