Default What to put in the radio hole in my STi?

Sorry to start a thread if one like it has already surfaced.

Assuming I can find an STi dealer who's sane, and can get it for MSRP, I'll be after my very first aftermarket radio/CD/Nav/Sirius system.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

And the STi's pre-wired, right? What about Woofers?

Cheers

S

what makes me more concerned is the fact that I would want to put an after market head unit in soon after picking up the car BUT, I dont know if the wiring setup will be the same as the WRX and I dont think I want someone tinkering around with my STi if they werent sure which wire goes where. Does anyone have any idea if the wiring will be the same as the WRX?

I am guessing that since the current show car has the WRX stereo in it, the STI will have the same wiring set up.

I got a quote from Sound Advice on a full system (Alpine, MBQ speakers, JL Sub and Amp. wiring and installation) and it came up to $4242.22.

Currently, I've got a $3K sound system in my car and it's worth every peny. So, a $4K in an STi should be the right thing to do.

However, You can't put large speakers in the doors. The holes are too small. You may need to do some cutting....

BenHayat: What kind of components do you have in there already? I'm trying to get a ball park figure and see what sounds good...

I figure after getting the car, spending about 500 on the HU, 400 on a 10w7, 200-500 on either a JBL or JL amp for it, some CDT or MB components, etc and an amp for them, and misc cables, etc it should be well under $4K. Ofcourse, I prob won't be going through a dealer because of their insane mark ups, either

Will not come with speakers, they are installed as an option with the headunit. I personally am planning on getting a simple headunit, then buying some used speakers from a wrx owner, (cheap), then upgrade later as $$ provides, at least for the time being I'll have some music.

To all you who are planning to drop in a system with Subs and amps... dont you think that will take away from performance? Everyone is talking about the weight and performance (especially handling) of the STi, but putting 100lbs in the trunk won't help performance at all. Just give me you rationale..

It's a different story to have this car light enough from factory not to pay a guzzler tax and adding a little to have nice entertainment later. If we would go as crazy we had to never take a passenger and even a bigger book would be a crime.

Well, for me, I might take the car to the strip once or twice and the rest of the time it will be a street cruiser so my tunes are going to be very important to me and only giving up a tenth in the 1/4 mile is more than worth it IMHO. That is, if the sub box will even be in there when I make my run

Currently I have a SUV with Eclipse tuner with MBQ speakers and JL Audio amps and sub.

If I buy an STi, I will do custom sound in it with top of the line wiring.

You can spend about 2K and still get a good sound.

Because when I'm sitting in rush hour traffic on the 405 freeway in Los Angeles, I won't be thinking of performance. Driver is going to be more important in driving this car to its full potential, rather than a little weight (IMO). But, my sub/box will be removable for track events...

I'm saving up a good $2500 for my system. I too experience the 405 clusterfck way too frequently to skimp out on my tunes. The wait really is driving me mad though. I want this car in my garage now! I wonder if for that price I can get a 7" lcd screen too?
