Exclamation drive harshness of the STI

could anyone give there opinions on what the WRX STI would be like to drive, would it be safe to assume that it would be much like the WRX with the stiff suspension. Right now I have the choice between a Lexus IS300 which I just test drove, and is pretty sweet, and the WRX STI which my dealer says they have one coming in early june and it mine if I want it( just have to give the downpayment). all I want to know is if I test drive the WRX
and like it I would have no problem with the STI. thanks.

Your choice of vehicles seems strange, the IS300 is in another catagory.

Sure subaru will soften the suspension slightly to what can be seen over seas, but since this is even more of a performance oriented model of the wrx Id assume the ride to be even more harsh.

the IS300 and the STI are what I have narrowed my choices too.
but im really leaning towards the STI, except I cant test drive it yet. so I want to know if I dont like the way the WRX drives I certainly wont like the STI. but if the WRX and the STI are radically different then there would be no point. so is it safe to assume that the WRX and the STI would feel the same when driving.

There is nothing so far that indicates that Subaru will soften the suspension of the STi for the US market. There are plenty of stiffly suspended cars that have made it to the US with suspensions similar to the overseas markets. The EVO and the Integra Type-R are a couple of examples.

ActionJackson:
The STi will be VERY different from the IS300. Here are a couple of differences that would be worthwhile to consider.

1. The STi will have a stiffer ride/handling compromise than the IS300.
2. The Sti will have very few luxury items compared to the IS300. The STi will not come strapped with excess baggage like sunroof, leather and a navigation system.

The STi is a serious car for a serious driver.

You drive a Mercedes now, and you consider an IS300 an option. Trust me, the STi will be too rough around the edges for you. You won't appreciate its performance. Go with the Altezza.

A little stiffer than the IS300, but not as much stiffer as you would imagine.

That is not the case with the US STi.

Actually after test driving the IS300 which does have a way more stiffer suspension then the Benz, I found it much more fun to drive. and the extra features such as the sun roof I really don't care for. its a small sacrifice to have the STi. but all I wanted was to maybe test drive a car that would have a similar feel as the STi
so I can get an idea before I put my deposit down. thats why I asked about the WRX.

the only reason my choices are between the IS300 and the STi is that they are similarly priced. and I like them both.

Have this guy tune the IS300. It has alot of the Supra's parts. Seen 2 that he's done 400WHP to 500WHP.

Try and test drive a 350z, that might be closer to the STI (albiet very different, but Its still a fun test drive The STI will definatly be faster though, the Z didnt feel too quick to me)

thanks Kostamojen, you have been most helpful.

As for just putting my name on the list and test driving when it comes out, is probably a good idea, except im itching for a new car now.and my lexus dealer is giving me a good deal on the IS300 too, so its becoming hard on deciding where to go. I know im creating my own problem here.

Cheers

Can any one comment on a WRX they have driven/ridden in that had the STi suspension in it? That should be pretty similar, right?

I'm giving up my Mustang (Eibach pro-kit/Tokico Illuminas) for the STi which will prob also be my daily driver and a suspension THAT stiff might shy me away...

The WRX I test drove felt pretty solid but if it were a little stiffer, it would be perfect IMO :crosses fingers hoping the STi will be the prefect mix:

By the way, has anyone ridden in a Spec V? Those things are very stiff and very uncomfortable. For comparison purposes at least...
