Question Amsoil and K & N Air Filters

Hi,

Long term, do either an Amsoil or K & N air filter cause problems with the MAF on a 98 Impreza 2.2 liter due to oil vapor from the air filter?

I have read some posts alluding to a potential problem with the MAF. Also know that some models of Mustangs have the problem.

Thanks for the help,
Roy

If it's over oiled they will cause problems (ie. hinder performance).

When I had an AMSOIL I first squeezed out the excess oil between a couple sheets of paper towels. Also did a wash and reoil a year later and no problems.
I also clean the MAF with an electronic cleaner a couple times.

Albert,

I noticed you said, "when I had an AMSOILl". What happened to it?
Was there any reason you did not like it?

From your response to my question I take it that the MAF will not be damaged provided there is not excess oil in the air filter (Ansoil or K & N).

Thank you,
Roy

Loved the Amsoil filter. When I use to check/clean the intake tubing there was never a film of dust that I always found when using gauze filters such as K&N. (No flame- K&N are good filters, they just let too much dust thru for my comfort)

I swapped in an Injen CAI a few months ago. The oe intake is in the attic with the Amsoil inplace just in case.

You have a '98 MAF so you should be ok, that baby is tough! I never had any problem when I had a Turn 3 intake or with the snorkle removed.

The '99's MAF from what I have read here were suspectible to one or a comb of vibration (MAF not firmly mounted), air turbulance, or oil build-up.

I've had an K&N panel for 70K miles with no problems. Just replaced it with a K&N cone filter.

I like K&N alot.
