Default brakes question

It's almost time to get new brakes again, so I'm thinking of upgrading the entire system... anyone have any recommendations as to the following?

new brake lines
larger/better brakes
brake pads

eagerly awaiting your wisdom.

For what reason were you upgrading your brakes? Will you be doing any track or auto-x events? Or did you just need better stopping capabilities on the street? I think these answers will better help narrow down possiblities.

A complete brake system with 6-pot front and 4-pot rear calipers might be a bit of overkill if all you need is a little extra initial bite which can be gotten from slightly more agressive street pads.

I'm sure someone will mention it, but also try the search function for previous threads regarding other's brake 'projects'.

Default update

Okay, so after some research and thinking about it, I think I'm only going to get SS brake lines, and new pads. I'll keep the stock rotors, calipers, etc. So new qn:

Anyone know of any good deals on brake lines and pads for a '97 OB? Will pads for any other Subaru work on the OB too, e.g. WRX or Imprezas?

SS Lines and Pads are a great upgrade. You might want to think about upgraded rotors in the stock size.

I buy my pads from http://brakewharehouse.com great bunch of guys there. I have been running Axxis Metalmasters on my SVX and they offer great stopping coupled with low-dust. I recently tried the Axxis Ultimates and they offer about 2-5% better stopping with significantly more dust.

SS lines are awsome. I put them in and my pedal feel is increased so it is nice and stiff, instead of mushy.

Default SS line recommendations?

Just wondering if anyone out there has any opinions on particular brands of SS brake lines? Just want to make sure I get a good set...

Oh, and anyone know if it's okay to mix and match front and rear brake pads? I'm thinking of running EBC greens on the front, and maybe Axxis Deluxe on the rear.

Goodrich lines are the common ones they use nowdays, they are specific to the subies IIRC.

Talking done! almost..

Okay, finally figured it out and ordered everything!

Going for:

new stock Stoptech rotors (front and rear)
EBC pads in the front
Metal Master pads in the rear

if anyone's wondering, the EBCs are because I got them at a good price, before I started reading up on them. Since the reviews are mixed, I just hope I come out on the right side of the mix! If I break them in correctly, they should be fine (I hope).

About the SS brake lines, I have a question that I hope one of you can answer:

Will the Stoptech WRX or 2.5RS brake lines fit an OB? Stoptech isn't sure and won't recommend it. And Cobb tells me (despite what their website says) that they don't have SS lines for an Outback. Anyone out there have either set of brake lines on their OB?

I could just get Goodridge, but I hear the Stoptech/Cobb lines are better, so...

Last qn: Someone recommend me a good brake fluid!!

kmin.
