Default tips for a new user.

hey, my name is chris, looking to get a 2003 2.5rs.
some of you might know me from over at revscene, same name.
i'm a friend of derek (fukamoto) and it's actually his influence that has made me interested in the impreza. my parents are looking to get a new car in the very near future, and so i think i'm gonna try and pass my altima to my dad to get a rs.

i was just hoping for tips from you guys on where to go for a car. my friends uncle owns richmond subaru, and apparently can hook me up with two different cars:

2002 rs, navy, 5-speed, asking $21 000. i'm not sure of the milleage on this car, so i'm gonna ask on thursday.

2003 rs, navy, 5-speed, demo car, and he hasn't told me the price yet.

but i've heard that some people are quite against richmond subaru as a dealership, so your thoughts on that are welcome too.

lemme know what you guys think, and perhaps i'll be a part of you guys soon. =)
thanks.

edit: i was also wondering about the costs of insuring an rs, as my altima is only $1500 a year, under my mom's name. =)

yeah wait for 2004! but $21000 for an 02 is real cheap!!

i paid $3113 with 10 or 15% off for my car. No accidents just the basic coverage.

Welcome aboard Chris

I pay $1700 with 40% for my RS. I'd stay away from demo cars bt the $21,000 for the 2003RS is rather cheap. Why not check it out and do a VIN# check. If worse comes to worse, you can wait for a 2004 TS model. Sure its a wagon, but you can easily get WRX wheels and springs for under $1,000 and it'll look just as badass

Good luck!

I personally wouldn't go for a demo car since usually it gets beat on by test drivers. Break-in periods with Subaru's are actually a big deal, unllike Honda vehicles or other manufacturers.

yeah, i heard that with subbies you actually have to break them in properly. i'll go take a look at the demo and the used car though, and hopefully fukamoto will go with me to don docksteader on saturday, and i can ask all the questions that i have about the 04s and so on.
thanks for the input btw, you guys seem a lot more welcoming than most other forums. =)

Benjamin: i was hoping more for black, coz i have a black altima now, and i love the look when it's nice and shiny. =)

Well I think must of us don't like Richmond's service department. I can speak from experience, my sister's RS was purchased from Richmond and I had the first 3 service done there. They suck ass period. They're not as friendy as Specialty. Also, stay away from demo cars because you have no idea how people have driven on them. If you have connections why don't you ask for a deal on a brand new car?

i just got back from richmond and don docksteader.
i test drove the car at richmond, on river road. i like it, decent power, tight steering and so on.

but i really had fun at don docksteader. the guy i dealt with was really nice, the guy that derek told me to go to, ollie rocha. we spent about an hour there. pulled into the lot with our two cars, my black altima and my friends modded 2001 black gti 1.8t. i dunno if it was coz of that, but he gave us pretty good service.

anyways, there is only one more 2003 that i could get, and it's silver. they will only buy it if it is new and if i really want it.
on the other hand, the 2004's should be in in the next couple of days. so i'm planning on calling him tomorrow to find out the MSRP (they should be getting that info in today) and then perhaps going in on saturday with my parents.

i dunno though. the 04 is gonna have a wrx spoiler put on it for an extra cost. but then i wouldn't have to do anything to the headlights and wouldn't have to paint the mirrors coz i'd get black. hehe. your thoughts please. =)

The $$ difference is very small. If you get the MY03 car now it will look out of date next week when the MY04s are on the road.

The MY04 contains enough extras over the MY03 to go for that if you can. Now if you just want a killer deal, they will be getting really interested in selling MY03s very soon.

it really comes down to which car you like more, the bugeyes or the new ones.

if i was you i would probably go with the 04, since its newer and the front end looks more aggessive.

Nice Chris. On saturday, I can make it till 1pm because I gotta help my mom with the thrift sale at West Vancouver. I'd go for the 2004 unless you can get a SMOKIN..i mean "at cost" deal on the 2003s. If it were me, I'd take the 2003 just because I like it more, but the 2004 would be a smarter investment.

Does anyone actually know what "invoice" is on a 2.5RS?

When I bought my 2.5RS, I got $2000 off my car. chokker talked to Ollie today and that's one of the biggest discounts DD has ever given. I'm guessing the invoice is $2300-2500 off MSRP. Just a guess. I think if your a BCAA member you can do a free search online.

I'd sell you my car, but it won't be cheap To be honest, with used TS on the market asking for almost MSRP, a $21k RS is either bad, or the owner needs to let it go real soon.

I've got all summer to sell the car

At the risk of possibly sounding like a ripoff in light of the above price, probably in the 24k range if I can swing it. I've been visiting the dealer more than I care to count lately to fix all the nagging issues (i.e. the flippin' 8am appointment to fix the clutch chatter tomorrow morning), so the car should be pristine w/ moderately low km's (compared to Hypa's!) @ 36k. With the GC8's having double the mileage asking the same price, I figured it's probably not a bad asking price, if not higher. If only those rat baaaaastards didn't come up with that ditsy witsy ugly podgy face lift...

What I get for my next car really depends on how much I sell the car for, and what I expect to have to put aside for incidental funds, but right now a V8 is awfully tempting in the form of a C4 Corvette or a Mustang. The go fast crack wh0re in me needs to be supplied with a good dose of go fast crack
