Loop probably saves weight and gives you somewhere to get your finger stuck when you shift. Does look kinda cool, though.

I'm guessing the loop lets you ship your hand in it so it doesn't fly off in a rally type situation where you'll be taking alot of bumps and such. Missing a gear would just slow you down ...

That knob looks like the one in the 2001 Porsche Carrera 4. It's not too bad, depending on what car you have.

Looks like a good place for your finger to get broken in a light collision. I would rather the STi stainless (actually I wouldnt have it any other way), as would most of us.
