Question STI No A/C?

My Dealer just called and said they got in the brochures for the STi's and had just sent one out to me. They asy that athe car doec not come with Fog lights, Floor matts, Moon roof, Stereo or Air conditioning. I had heard or knew of all of these except the A/C it doen't bother me too much except for the defrost factor. Has antone else out there heard about the no A/C thing. Nice weight saver and less load on the engine.

If you look on the center console pic It shows that the center button is for Air Conditioning.

As far as I know everything that cannot be installed by the dealer will be on the car. For example AC..

Remember, everything is "subject to change" as far as the features and specs go. It would be great for lowering the weight (and cost).

Alas, I think it may just be that your dealer mis-spoke about the A/C. We'll have to wait and see if any other dealers mention it.

Also, are these new brochures? Or the same ones that were released in Detroit in January?

Speaking of 'Super ABS', what exactly is that system and how does it differ from the 'regular' ABS system of lesser Impreza's?

Well, that sounds like the closest thing to an official weight we've heard as well. That makes it lighter than the EVO...well 3 lbs lighter than the no sunroof one.

Here is a quote from the STi v7 AUS Technical Description:

The ‘Brembo’ braking system also comes equipped
with Super Sports ABS with Electronic Brake force
Distribution (EBD). This improves ABS performance
during cornering and reduces stopping distances with
greater stability under heavy braking.
Super Sports ABS uses input from a lateral ‘G’
sensor to individually control brake pressures more
accurately when ABS operates during hard cornering
under brakes, leading to reduced understeer.
Normally ABS would jointly control both rear
brakes to the same braking force when the inside wheel
loses traction, with a resultant increase in stopping distance and
cornering understeer. Under these same conditions Super Sports
ABS controls rear braking force individually leading to a
reduction in stopping distance and cornering understeer.
EBD due to electronic control more accurately regulates
brake force distribution between front & rear wheels to the
ideal level, thus improving stopping distances and stability.
Conventional braking systems rely on a mechanical
proportioning valve to limit the braking force at the rear wheels,
to reduce the possibility of rear wheel lock under heavy braking
due to weight transfer. A mechanical proportioning valve
however restricts rear-braking force to a level well below the
ideal limit, requiring the front brakes to take more of the
braking load. This leads to increased understeer and under
utilisation of the rear brakes.

There was no descriptions of how any sti systems work or the differences between systems all of this was listed in the specifications area in the rear of the brochure. The sti consisted of about one page in the brochure.

The weight is 100% official but it may be like 3280
it was 3260 or 3280 I left the brochure at home
I got it late last night. But it is w/in 20lbs if not the exact weight
I stiil think it was 3260!!!

For my third post in a row in this thread....

Did the brochure have a picture of the "gun metal" rims? Just asking because the "web survey" SOA sent out had "silver" rims.

It did not give a picture of the gun metal
but it specifically stated the wheels gold or gun metal grey.

No radio = weight saving! Sure... some, but they could have had crank (roll-up) windows to save weight. The missing standard sound system is no doubt from past feedback complaints and not to save weight. The 6 CD system in the WRX was perfectly fine with me and still is. I've had no problems with it. Most folks today want to have their own choice for tunes with satellite radio, DVD, or tracking devices, big amps, sub-woofers, etc... I think it Subaru's way of saying install what ya want! Most people will end up with something heavier than the offered 6 CD changer.

Actually, I have heard that electronic roll up windows weigh less then the old crank variety. Can anyone confirm this?

Maybe Subaru's electric windows do. Ever notice how slow the Subarus windows are to put up and down? They are twice as slow as any other car I've ever put the windows up or down in.

Someone please tell me how a semi-automatic air conditioning system works.

I've never even heard of this. Does it save on weight or something? What are the benfitis of it?

It's not just hot or cold. You set the dial to a temperature, like 20°C, and the car keeps the temperature in that range. I think it's different from "fully automatic" air conditioning which is usually digital, and chooses which vents to blow air out of, and can have separate zones for the drivers and passenger. So I guess it will be slightly more advanced than the WRX's AC.

Default STI No A/C?

Look at the PDF about the STI. It says that AC is not on the STI.

see the "--" which says below, "not available".
