Default Group N Sti top mounts vs. Stock STi top mounts

Can someone brief me on difference between these?

I have Group N Sti top mounts for fronts and stock Sti for rear

is there significant difference in terms of performance?

STi= no such thing..the STi comes with the same mounts as your car came with.

STi Group N - the only strut top upgrade offered by STi.

So if a vendor is selling STi top mounts how do we know weather they are simply new STi mounts (just like ours) or the upgraded STi grp N mounts?

Adam - do you have part numbers?

thanks

Somehow im a tad confused also,,I bought the Ra takeoffs with supposedly the STi top mounts. There is def a difference between the stock tops and the Ra mounts for sure.Much harder rubber. So im not thinken they are the same as my stockers in anyway .Maybe not group N,but certainly not stock WRX.

The RA comes with the Group N mounts...the stad. STi does not.

STi part numbers for the rear are ST203704S000 (R) and S010 (L).

Front mounts are all the same dating back to the GC8 - part number is ST2031055000

I would like to point out that STi is the tuning house that installs the harder mounts on the cars so they really are "STi mounts"...
They just may not be on all STi's...

The part #'s above are for STi Group N mounts.

The standard STi model does not get these mounts..it gets the same mounts as the std WRX. Only the Spec C (aka RA) and S202 gets the Group N mounts as standard.

Thanks Adam

These are listed on Gruppe-s site under STi top mounts?

ST-2031055000 FRONT pair
ST-203704S0X0 REAR pair

does this seem correct?

Well, those are the same as what Adam lists for the Group-N top mounts. I assume the X is in the rear because the part number is different from left to right

Default So now I'm really confused...

So what's the issue with getting an STi top mount for STi/SPT struts. I was under the impression that the struts have to have the STi top mount or they will cause the car to bounce. If the standard STi has the same top mounts as the Standard WRX the SPT/STi struts should work fine without any STi topmounts installed. I would think the STi has harder mounts for the stiffer suspension.

No, the STi struts don't NEED the Group N strut tops, though they can benefit from the addition of the strut tops in question, especially when running stock tire sizes.

The SPT suspension is the same as the STi RA suspension and the STi RA comes with the hardened strut tops. And like Kevin said, this is more of an issue with stock size tires. Since the STis all come with 17s this isn't as big a deal. I even noticed a nice improvement in the ride quality when increasing tire pressure on my car with the STi suspension and 215/45 17s.

Default So what should I do...

I ordered a set of STi take-offs from either an STi or an STi type RA... is there a way to tell when they arrive which top mounts are on them?
I will be installing these along with the aluminum arms and the complete bushing and swaybar kit. I have a set of UK 17" rims with 215/45-17 S-03 Potenzas.
Will I be OK with just the standard top mounts or should I be thinking of installing the Group N ones if it turns out that the struts I ordered have only the standard mount? I am thinking of the complaints that I hear of a bouncy ride quality without the firmer top mounts.

Well hopefully the strut tops have the part number on them. I never looked to see if mine did. I'd try them out and if you're happy with the ride leave them. If they aren't the hardened ones and you're unhappy then replace them. The installation is really easy. Especially the first time since you have the whole assembly in one piece.

Got my STi takeoffs today. Checked the part number on the tops against my factory strut tops- they're the same, so I didn't get group N tops.
