Post Newer light assembly... Will it fit???

I'm a total newbie here, but I'd like a little info if anyone can help. I've got a '97 Impreza L sedan and a broken headlight (I took a rock to it driving up I-70 to Breckenridge). I really like the look of the "newer" style light assemblies I've seen that have the smooth glass on the inside and the slick looking lens. I currently have the older style ones with the bumps on the inside of the glass. But will the newer ones fit in my '97 sedan? I've asked a couple parts guys at sooby dealers around the area, but they don't have a clue. They keep telling me that it's a different part # (which seems obvious to me; one is clear, one is not = different part) but can't say if it will fit or not. If anyone knows, please help. I'm also looking for the best place to order them if they do in fact fit. I'd be willing to buy them used if anyone has them hanging around after some slick-@$$ headlight mod they've done, so long as they are in good condition.

Help the newbie!!!
thanks,

Sir Yach-o

<FONT face="Comic Sans MS">You will have to change at least the grill as well, and possibly the hood (I don't think you do, but don't quote me on that part). The part numbers for the headlights are available on my site (click the link in my sigfile and then go to "Part Numbers" and "93-01 Impreza")

hey kaotik...

I see you're one of the few (like me) on this board that doesn't have either an RS or a WRX. When you said that Brian was right, can I assume that you've done this, and also did you mean that you have to replace the grill AND the hood, or just the grill. And who might know what kind of cash am I gonna be spending to try and make my car look newer than it is?

I'm 22, just got my Impreza a month ago, so yeah, you guessed it, I'm as clueless as they come. Anyone know of any other mid-priced mods/additions for a '97 Impreza? I'm definitely changing out the intake, I'm trying to find a cold air conversion for the '97.

Thanks,

Sir Yach-o

You do have to retrofit the hood as well. You might try Teague's Auto, he tends to have an RS parts car or two around. If not, there are "deals" on carbon-fibre hoods.

Sir Yacho-

Well, I'm the one everyone seems to always ask about hood and front end transplants on older Imprezas (or so I'd like to think ) and since we're not far from each other, maybe we can meet up, and I can show you exactly what you'll need. Let me know!
Also, here's a pic of my car from the member section-

I'm not sure you need a new hood or grill. I'm pretty sure (but not 100% sure) that '97 is the year they "updated" the hood and lights. If you have the same front bumper as the '98 RS and Canada RS's then all you need are the light housings and lenses.

ScoobyDriver, I was thinking the same thing... I thought 97 was the year they changed the front end style...

1st off I wanna say thanks for all the help.

But anyway, I was at a scooby dealer checking into a new car for my friend when I saw a white 2000 Impreza L (which kinda threw me off a bit, all i've seen of recent years are RS's) and it looked nearly exactly the same as my '97, except for the new headlights that i'm looking for. So I'm not sure if I have to change out the whole front end or not. I'm not looking to make my car look like an RS (hood scoop, hood vents, grill etc.) even though that's damn cool what you did with yours, ImprezaL. I'm just looking to switch out the lights. I dunno. Hopefully I can do it 'cause I really don't have tons of cash to do this with, but I can swing about $500, and $150 of it is set aside for when Larry Ganz gets his cold intakes together.

---- ImprezaL, I'd be glad to hook up and talk Imprezas with you some time, but comparing yours to mine, I'm feelin' a little out of your league right now. Plus, I REALLY don't know jack about cars in general, but I gotta learn somewhere, right?

Hey, another 2.2L owner here. I emailed most of you guys, but in case you don't get it. I would kinda like to join the circle of EJ22 owners. I don't mind answering any "stupid" questions...or asking any for that matter. Anyways, I am also very interested in the head light swap. Maybe I will try to get a dealer to let me test fit one....get back to you on it.

Sir Yacho-

Well, If your headlights are the same shape as the RS style, then yeah, you cn just swap in the brand new ones. I can give you part numbers if you need for the MY2000 headlights. They are clearer in the front, not as "muddled"...
