Default Today's Auto-x

Just wanted to make a post about todays auto-x.
For those of you who didn't know it was a VCMC
closed club event. There was a fair number of Subarus
there but most were new guys. Sol (Banjo) and his tall
friend did really well. I was very impressed for their first
time out. (well, a couple times for Sol but first for his friend).

Nice to see the outback sport out again and there was a girl in a WRX that did very well for her first time. I rode along with her on her first run and she was very smooth and did not freak out or anything. She wants to build her WRX to like 350-400hp!! Sweeet!!!

Anyways, it was a very good event. There was a little delay at the beginning because of possibly an unsafe crossover. Once that was dealt with the day went very quick. I think there was probably about 80-90 cars there. VCMC's events are running amazingly smooth. We were outta there after 6 runs by 3pm.

Very nice course too. It suited my car which was a bonus. Despite being in stock form I could do all-right. Good to see Jackie and Erik out there as well.

Sorry if I forgot anyone...

Jamie: Man it was great to see u at BB again. I had quite some fun today. It was a really fast and straight forward course but I still didn't manage to get into the 35-39sec range. My bad. Banjo did wayyyyyyy better after u helped him. 2 thumbsup to u guys. Too bad the weather isn't good or I will sure take some pix for you guys.

Can't wait for the next event.

Banjo: U did better and better now man. Keep up the great work and hope to see u at the next event.

Last but not least, mad props to VCMC for organizing such a great event!

The course involved moving large objects in the back of your car?

Your mom's gotta get around somehow too (transportation wise - we already know she "get's around.")

I want to ask, if i bring my car down to Auto X what class will i be in?

I plan to take my civic to auto X. My car is stock suspension and stock tires. However it got an engine swap. Can i run in the stock class still?

Hi Jamie,
How can I find out more info/registration for the next event. I've been dying to take the car on the track (while I still have tread on the tires). I assume this is at Boundary Bay?
Thanks for any info. Oh, are you still working for PDM? I've gotta talk to Don about a rear swaybar/endlinks/ALK setup for my ride. Do you know if he got the 4wheel dyno set up?
Cheers dude,

Like -S- said, C Mod.
I ran a '93 Civic DX with B18C in it, full interior, street tires and was put in that class.
Good luck against all the gutted race cars running on slicks.
Sometimes when they all broke down/didn't show up I finished pretty good.

Brian, I am no longer working for Don.
No Dyno that I know of yet.

Go to www.vcmc.ca for details on the next or any other auto-x.
I think the next one is late next month. Pretty sure I'll be there. We'd like to get a good contingency of Subarus out for that.

Kei, as said your car would be C-mod. BUT, if you didn't mention that you could maybe get away with stock class for a closed event.

It would still be fun though, just go to a closed club day then competition isn't as fierce.

r u guys sure he will end up in C mod?

coz according to the new rulebook....all VTEC models (civic, integra and del sol) is going to be in DSS/DSP class....non vtec model is going to be in FSS/FSP???

i know his car used to be in C mod....but shouldn't he follow the new rulebook now?

not really...thought they had a little arguement on VCMC earlier that any EK hatch can swap to B16A and stay in SP....just the matter of DSP or FSP??? coz based on as long as displacement is the same???

yet if i go to B18 then i will be in mod....

boostedwagon's civic is EG DX which is 1.5L stock....even it's Si that comes in 1.6L....he will still be going to mod coz of his GSR (B18) swap....

but Civic is generally out of C class this year....any VTEC goes to D class and non VTEC goes to F class....

Here's a qoute from the CACC Solo rulebook under allowable mods for SP:

vi) Updating and Backdating of Parts
a) Interchange of components between various years of the same model
(see 6.1.C) produced by the same manufacturer under the same brand
name is permitted, subject to the following restrictions.
(i) The vehicle on which the component is installed must
now compete in the same class as the vehicle from which
the component was taken.
(ii) The component must be standard equipment on the
vehicle from which it was taken.
(iii) No modification is permitted to the vehicle or component
in order to facilitate the installation of the component.
(iv) The resulting engine specifications including the
specifications of all engine components (exhaust
manifold(s), carburetor/injection system, etc., with the
exception of the clutch and transmission units) must
conform to the specifications of a single vehicle model
and model year.
(v) The resulting suspension specifications including the
specifications of all suspension components (spring rates,
sway bar systems, etc., except shock absorbers ) must
conform to the specifications of a single vehicle model
and model year.
(vi) The suspension and engine specifications together must
conform to the specifications of a single vehicle model
and model year, except where any different specification
is permitted under authorized modifications for the
vehicle category.
(vii) The vehicle from which the component is taken must
have the same drive train configuration as that on which
the component will be installed.

It's spelled out pretty clearly that an engine swap isn't allowed in SP. Thus, you go to mod, C/MOD being 4 cylinders under 2350cc.
You can see the whole book here:

nono, mine isn't a GSR swap

it is a B16A

anyways when u open the hood, the engine looks completely stock

even stock header and stock tinny cx exhaust

I just want to run with RC and 5Zigen thats it. My tires are crap. They are made from Canadian Tire, so go figure

but anyways, if i have to compete with other cars like Porsche and so, i wouldn't be going then cuz no point

1) my civic have stock brakes which really sucks
2) the stock suspension makes the car wanna flip over or something
3) the car have no power steering so kinda hard to turn

so if i m not in their class then nahhh.

Kev, I'm pretty sure you can swap the engines provided that it's offered in the same model, i.e. Si to SiR engine, yada yada.

Boosted Wagon: Uh, yeah... whatever. You can still have a lot of fun w/ an absolute crap car Just ask the people who autox their Mazda 323's at UBC events, or those of us who had the (dis)pleasure of autoxing a stock scoob w/ stock tires, etc.

Either that, or you can always bring out the STi, 911, or the lude

I think that was Cary's friend. Cary got FTD in that car.
There were some wieners there though, no question.

I'm also pretty sure I read something about the model has to have been sold in Canada too. If the car is a Civic coupe you might be able to get away with it, if it's an older hatchback I doubt it.

Holy crap! My typing skills really deteriorated last night

Kev: Yeah, the model has to be sold in Canada. Too bad for some of my friends who wanted to build a SN95 Cobra R
