Lightbulb Why so many rumors?

We all get a lot of information from a lot of sources; much of it not substanciated, confirmed, or even true. Something to keep in mind. About 2-3 months ago I had a nice casual conversation with my dealer I put a deposit on for the STi. He had mentioned how many people come in every day asking him(sales and business manager) about the STi, when it is coming in, how much is it going to be, can I drive one when they come in, on and on. During our nice conversation he mentioned in a very subtle but informative way that I did not have to come in every couple weeks or keep calling because THEY would contact ME as they got information in about the STi. I thought that very fair as I handed him my deposit. He stated sometimes the questions and calls he gets start to be so numerous and annoying that he just starts saying things to keep the people from calling everyweek. I think it would get bother-some if I kept getting asked the same question day after day when I didn't have the information either. All of these bits of info like "the STi is 3 months behind production schedule," "STi has no A/C," "price of the STi will be over$35-40K," and so on. Maybe they just want a little peace from the same questions over and over. I would. Believe me, I can't wait till the STi is here, especially with the warm weather coming. The true information will be here soon along with all of the tests. Until then, I'm just hanging tight and patiently waiting till the beginning of May when the flood of DOCUMENTED information comes rolling in......I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

People by nature are curious. Car people become exponentially curious when something promising is announced.

It's nothing abnormal. But I agree with you.

So, I guess you're suggesting that salemen, instead of simply saying they don't know, will make up something. What an insight. And then you say you can't wait, you're patiently waiting, and ending with you can't wait.

Why wasn't this posted in Off-Topic instead of wasting space in this forum?

Do you honestly think sales man will tell you the truth? They don't know either way. And yes I am excited but I don't need to call or visit my dealership every week to show it.......why did you reply if it is a waste of your time? It is about the STi and that is why it is in this forum.

Another example of what dealers are going through:

Someone walked into the Subaru dealership up the street and demanded to drive the new STi. When he was told it was not out yet he got hostile, called the salesman a liar, and threatened to go to go drive a Neon SRT4 (which isn't in Wisconsin either).

The fact that he can't wait, but is waiting is a rumor!
Yeah, salesmen usually do not know many things other than how to sell cars (or not, in some cases). That's a rough job, especially when there isn't much information to go by other than what is in the brochure.
We're all waiting!

Subaru has done a very good job keeping info about THE STi from getting out. I was impressed how THEY managed to drop THE 2.5l bomb at LA without anything leaking out beforehand.
