Default Why can't use 2.2 or 2.5 PH1 trans with 2.5 PH 2?

What is different about teh transmission on teh 2.5 phase 2 motor that you can't use a 2.2 or 2.5 phase 1 transmission on a 2.5 phase 2 motor? Is tehir no way to make it work? Thanks.
BTW, I'm talking about a 5 speed.

Who said they wouldn't work?

I've got a buddy that has a 99 RS 5spd tranny mated to a 2.2 turbo motor.

But I want to do it the other way. Mate a Phase 1 2.5 (or 2.2) transmission to a Phase 2 2.5 motor.

Ive heard that differences exist in the amount of fasteners but they do not interfear with each other, in other words a phase 2 engine with a phase 2 tranny will be clamped together more than a mix matched set.
