Default Is DCCD teh weakest link now

Does anyone have any info as yet on how much HP teh DCCD can handle.
I searched in Australia and UK forums. The Aussie discussion gets muddled and teh UK doesn't state what HP it can handle.

I've also read this post. Most are just guessing HP.

Any comments about the old DCCD don't apply to the new system. It has a heavy duty planetary gear controlled by some pretty smart gizmos.

Basically look at a diagram of the front bit of a VTD auto gearbox.

It is essentially the same (with a manual mode, a knob and of course a different control system).

Of course there is an upper limit with it but it is probably well beyond the limits of the current WRX bits (5MT, driveshafts etc).

Considering that previously DCCD has only been released in the more highly specced STi's out there (JDM & RA versions), I'd say logic would dictate that it won't be a terribly weak link.. ?

As far as I know, even though they redesigned the axles, they are still the weak link.

On the axles, it depends what you mean: torque or rotational speed?

Both front and rear axles are increased dia, the wheel bearings are increased dia, the CV's are bigger, the driveshaft has bigger U/J's etc. You get the idea.

I'd say at this stage the tires are the weakest link , perhaps followed by the clutch, and even then you probably wouldn't blow it, just wear it quickly.

I have heard stories of 6500 RPM clutch drops.... though it is fitted with the delay valve.

The old DCCD was essentially a magnetic clutch --- it is a lot more sophisticated now. Really, find pictures of the VTD gearbox from the Outback or WRX and you will see how "built" it is.

Is the DCCD always in manual mode? Or can you let it be and it will decide on setting like the automatic transmission?

(I searched and this was the thread I found)

It stays in auto mode until you make it manual.

In other words, the DCCD is the strongest link in the STi with additional points like the 2.5L turbo and the 6-speed just icing on the cake.

I would really love to go for the STi, even taking a hit on my current WRX, just for the DCCD.
