Default what tire size to get for a 2000.

I have a 2000 RS and need new tires. What size to get? I was wanting something wider, but I don't know how wide I can go with out the tires hitting of rubing the struts. I was thinking of a 225-45-16. I can't really find any good 215-50-16's. Or is the stock size the best? I have the stock 6 spoke rims.
What should I get?
Also I car has the stock springs and shocks. I plan on keeping it that way.

225s may rub in the back. You may have to roll the fenders or fender liners to make them fit. Stock size is fine for me...I like having some sidewall to protect me from potholes.

I got Kumho MX's in 205 55 16's. They are EXCELLENT.

I've reached 60mph on onramps without any driftin/skidding.

I'll prolly stick with the stock 205-55-16 because I like having the comfort of hitting a pot hole and knowing that it didn't hit my rim

I use OEM sizing, too. 205/55-16 Dunlop 9000s in summer, and a -1 to 195/65-15 Nokian Hakkapeliitta 1 tires in wintertime.

That's obviously the first choice, just OEM size...

However, a lot of people favor 205/50-16 instead. I think SoA used to use that size on its cars, and then switched to 55-series a few years back, supposedly to make the ride cushier, when they were trying to change their image, I guess. The European market stuck with 50-series, however, at least until most of the cars over there started coming with 17" wheels (215/45 mostly, except for STi, which is 225/45-17).

I say go for 205/50. If you talk to North_Ursalia in NESIC, he actually tested this and found that the speedometer reading is more accurate with a 50-series tire. I've said this in other threads, but my guess is that Subaru didn't bother recalibrating the computers when they switched to 55-series tires. *shrug*
But it beats me!!

50s will be more fun because it's 5% less sidewall of course. Talk to Mike Shields at www.spdusa.com about it. He's a resident expert on..... well.... just about everything Subaru-related, really!

Forgot to mention...

With all that in mind, I'll be making a gradual switch to 205/50 sizing. I'll be selling my winter tires this season, since they're done with their third winter and don't grip so well anymore. If I decide to keep my 15"s, I'll change to 195/60-15 for next winter.
If I upgrade to WRX/Legacy H-6 brakes (front/rear, respectively) then I'll need 16"s, probably just WRX takeoffs, for winter. So I'll get 205/50-16 winter tires for them... I know 55-series will be better for bumps/potholes, but I'd rather keep my odometer readings as accurate as possible. I know the switch to 50-series will throw it off anyway, a bit, but I'd rather not be switching sizing every season, really blowing things out of whack.
(I drive about 30k miles a year so I like to keep track of things.)

And then next spring, I'll switch to 205/50-16 summer tires, too.
My Dunlops are only one season old so far though, so they should last all through this year.

I tried 225/45r16 Dunlop SP-5000s on the stock wheels and they didn't fit. I couldn't bolt them on the back because the sidewall was smashed against the strut. I don't remember if I had the stock suspension or the v5 stuff, but either way I don't think it'll work. Dunlops seem to run a bit wider anyway. Those 225's looked mad from the back.

Eh, yeah well no offense but that tire size messes up the OEM geometry pretty badly I think, so I'm not too surprised that there were fitment problems.
