Just got back from lunch and this is what happened.
As I'm driving to lunch in my Isuzu Rodeo, there is a civic with a big wing (similar to STi) to my right side going about 50 mph in a 45 mph zone. We both see this cop sitting with his radar and we both maintained about 48 mph. We both passed the cop and as I'm looking at the cop, he is looking at civic with the big wing. Next thing I see, the cop turned around and came behind the civic and pulled him over. My question is, is that big wing going to attract any cop who is having a bad day, and take it on me? ..Ben

Probably. Just remember not to run. Everyone knows if the police have to come after you they are bringing and ass kicking with them.

Does your WRX have the normal size wing or the big-ass STi wing? Quote:

Maybe the cop owned a Honda and wanted to know where to get that wing... Perhaps he was a local that was always being eye-balled and had a reputation.Whatever the case make sure during the break-in period of the STi that you pass as many cops as possible. Never joyride enroute to and from work, so the law in the area recognize you to be an upstanding law abiding citizen. Our problem may be the the pink lettering! What kind of officer will be attracted to that? Always scout an area before being bold. ![]() |

You might be able to talk yourself out of a ticket though, after you unbutton your shirt a little.....

The "image" of the car you drive can completely effect whether you get a ticket-
One gorgeous early Saturday AM I was driving in the middle lane on a 3 lane interstate coming into downtown, getting ready to jump off the next exit to go to the office for a minute. There was very light traffic (I could probably see maybe 5 cars on the entire interstate), and I was driving my wife's very un-souped-up Civic. I really never speed above 7 MPH on the interstate, so I was probably doing about 62-63 in a 55. I shift down preparing to get in the right lane and take the long ramp off the intererstate, and out of nowhere, for reasons I will never understand, I just floored it without thinking. I guess I was thinking it would be fun to whip around the the off-ramp. Now a stock Civic is obviously not very fast, but the next thing I know (this is literally a second later) I have this huge sinking feeling as I pass a cop, neatly hidden in between two huge shrub/trees on the median to my left. He is facing me, and although his head is down writing or somethign, I am totally confident I just got a ticket, which would have been my first since I was sixteen (I was 26 at the time). I estimate I was probably going about 67 in a 55. So I pound the brakes down to 60 and start sweating as I watch the rear view. Sure enough, out from between the trees comes the hood, then the doors, and then the cop pulls right into the middle lane about an 8th of a mile behind me. I decide to take the next exit (ie not the one I originally planned on getting off on), not wanting to pull over into the right lane and make the cop think I am pulling over for him. For a moment, I think I may have gotten lucky and the cop is just moving spots or something, because he doesnt have lights on. But then I realize he is coming up real fast behind me, and I am dead meat. The lights then come on, and I know I am toast, and start looking for somewhere to pull over. But just when I am sure all is lost, the cop whips around me to the left, goes streaking up the left lane, and starts tailgating a red Camaro about a few hundred yards in front of me in the left lane that I hadn't even seen! Sure enough, the cop pulls the Camaro over, and I drive on by. I almost thought about pulling over and fessing up, but who am I kidding! I rationalize it by telling myself that's what the Camaro guy got for sitting in the passing lane on the interstate! |

my 97 gsx was red (what the hell was I thinking) and it's stock spoiler was huge, and it definitely didn't help in maintaining a low profile. although i'm still getting my share of harrassment in the silver wrx (facing a 6 month suspension on 4/25 and then a 2 pt "driving at a safe speed" appeal on the 29th)). i think there is more to it than the spoiler, more like a general "sports car" profiling. or maybe it's my driving??.... doh!

Ya, big spoilers, bright colors, coffee can mufflers and blatant stickers can all atract cops to any car that normally wouldnt be attracting cops. I also think that what you are wearing and the position in which you are driving can also get you pulled over, but thats just a theory.
I admit, I drive crazy sometimes, and Ive only been pulled over once since I got my licence in '96. And my Green L never gets a 2nd glance from a cop even if im taking a corner at some insane speed ![]() |

No stories to wanna tell since I've been lucky avoiding any Imperial entanglements, but perhaps the wing could come in handy... They still eye-ball me in the Rex as well.
Find a professional photographer with an expensive digital camera with the new CMOS chip (the kind that can do 16x base). Have him take a picture of a rusted beat-up AMC Pacer from behind enlarge it to actual size and afix it to the wing. Instant disguise! ![]() |

Why is the car yellow, and what did you do to make it so afraid? Yeah... (colors) ...So, what color STi would you get? I had this red Honda CRX Si, and the police couldn't take their eyes offa it no matter what speed it was going! No wings were involved with the appearance either. |

Those donuts(police--different flavors too)just love to follow my RS. They've a few here but the moment I'm seen....follow that car!! Granted my foot is heavy but I've changed lanes to let someone zip by me and one glazed and I was still followed.
Happens at least once per week. Wonder what will happen when I do a few mods or get an Sti....probably about a half-dozen a day!!! |
