I am planning on doing a WRX swap into a early (95ish) impreza L, then repaint, redo body, etc. Is the exhust all the same for imprezas? I am giong to do the 2.5rs body conversion and then add a body kit ontop of that. Should i not add the RS bumper if I am going to add a body kit anyway, and just get an aftermarket front bumper? Do they even make a body kit for early Imprezas? Will a body kit for a 2.5RS fit onto an Impreza L? Also what are my options for aftermarket headlights? Thanks

The 2.5 RS suspension should fit your '95 L. I just read a post on a guy who just swapped his L springs and shocks/struts for the RS's. What motor do you currently have in the L? If you have the 1.8 liter I doubt that the tranny will hold up with all the new power, but maybe your swapping in WRX tranny too? As far as body parts, I've read that the L needs a new bumper beam, or you could cut the original one on the L to make the RS front bumper work. I've read that it cost between $80-$100, the bumper beam that is. If you are going to get a body kit, why waste your money buying the 2.5 RS body stuff? More parts to buy, more parts to prime and paint. You must have plenty money. I'm sure you'll get a lot of responses more educated than mine, but that's my answer to your question.

Yes there are some body kits STi, JUN and Prodrive come to mind. Some cheaper replicas are available Get an awd car to start and that will save you some effort.
There are some exhaust difference between years and engines, but if you are going to swap the EJ20 then no worries. You will have to get a turbo crossmember for a wrx or legacy turbo to do the swap. A turbo front sway bar fits better. There are several brands of coilover that will work on any awd car. things that don't swap are; intakes some headers - depends on engine ecus - some Pre 1997 headlight, grill and hood all need to be swapped together or they don't line up so great. cruise control units wrx brakes require 16 inch wheels shifter kits on pre 1997 You are going at this the right way by getting a cheap awd car and building from there. |

The short answers:
The exhaust behind the cat is the same on all GC8's. The suspension struts, springs, brakes, etc are all interchangeable on all awd GC8s. The RS parts bolt onto the non-RS with no mods, but note that if you don't get everything, the hood will not work with your stock headlamps due to the shape of them. You need '97 up lamps to fit the RS hood. You need not use the RS bumper to use the other RS components. I'm proof of that. The 1.8 tranny will not work with the EJ22 or EJ25, so it goes to figure it isn't suitable for your WRX swap. A 2wd Impreza as a base for your project would be a dumb, money and time wasting endeavor. |
