Question Is the new body style less succeptible to cross-winds?

I hate how my WRX "changes lanes" without any input from me if I get hit by a strong crosswind. Is the new body style any better in this respect?

Probably not much, It's the same body, just a different front end, and .4 inches lower, so if there's a difference its negligible.

The hoodline is higher, although by a negligible amount.

The bulges/fins in front of the front wheels may help with stability but not cross winds, I presume.

That sail that is the new tail may not be of help though.

Plus, that new hood scoop is large enough to inhale small children and the occasional dog at 50mph, so.... it may be worse!

I think someone figured out that part of the crosswind problem stems from the way the air flows over the rear windshield. Creates some kind of godawful, anti-aerodynamic garbledeegook.
But then again, the whole car's about as streamlined as your average garbage can. Heh.

So.... unless the new front lip treatment offers some help, my answer would be an assuming "no." But who knows!

Default Crosswind...

Is your WRX modded? I've felt some tugging, but nothing extreme as you have mentioned. Perhaps an alignment is needed. The grippy tires on the STi may help, but the vertical part of the wing may add some flick from side to side. At this point it's an unknown.

My car has moved a good 3-4 feet at ~70mph in the strong winds we've had in the past day or two. Kind of unnerving. I need some better tires for sure. I've had these el cheapo "MasterCraft" tires on my car. I don't want to buy a set of Michelin Pilots yet because it's still cold once in awhile and I may be upgrading to the STi.

No power mods on my WRX excpet for an up-pipe and some other little stuff.

A lot of the "lane changing" you are experiencing is due to how the wind interacts with the undercarriage of the car. Unless Subaru has addressed that (BMW is noteworthy in their R&D in this area-see the 5 series) I doubt it will be any better than the WRX.
