Default Smith Mountain Lake or Deep Creek for vacation?

My friends all want to go on our annual week vacation, drinking binge, party, whatever you may call it. This year we are trying something different than Ocean City as we usually go there.

We can't make our minds up between Smith Mountain Lake, or Deep Creek. Besides the awesome lakes and boating, is there anything else to do in those areas? Any good bars to go to? We are all in our mid 20s, and I just want to make sure these places are decent to go and party.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I have a condo at Smith Mtn Lake and i love it up there. I dont really know about clubs but there are some really good places to eat and hang out. I think that it is more of a relax, vacation place. My condo is at Vista Pointe near the dam. During the summer there are alot of peolpe there and it is pretty fun. Where were you thinking about staying? When were you thinking about going? I will be up there some with my new scobie checing out some cool roads that my friends and I have found. The 4th of July is always alot of fun.

striper fishing at its best by the dam using shad w/ surf rods with lots of line. Fishermans paradise is a good crowd never been anywhere else around the lake other than to go fishing.

yea i have to agree the dam is a pretty good place to fish....but if you have a boat the best would be on the lake itself. Back on topic i'm not sure which one is the best because i grew up pretty close to the Smith Mt. Lake area. I actually went to school about 15mins from there. If you are looking for a bar or something you might have to leave town and go to either Roanoke or Lynchburg not sure which is closest or even close at all depending on where you are at on the lake. Also I have a couple of friends renting out a cabin in Deep Creek on June 13th...let me know if you just happen to decide to go ova there that weekend.

Well, I'd have to say Smith Mountain Lake simply because I'm there every weekend. There are a few bars and clubs there, but you're probably going to be best off coming to Roanoke.

If you come down, look me up. I'll be glad to show you around.

Thanks for the input on that . We'll probably be headed down somewhere around June 20something for a week, basically I think the week before July 4th. I'm not sure if any of the guys will be much into fishing, though I think we'll be bringing a jetski and getting a place with a boat dock. Is there usually any eye candy (bikini chicks) to look at in Smith Mountain Lake? or is it mostly a family kind of resort?

Yes, there are plenty. Especially around the larger condos and comminities, like Bernard's Landing, Waterfront, Waverly, and around Crazy Horse marina there are usually quite a few.

Of course, since I have a girlfriend, I... uh... don't look at that kind of stuff....

Hey Cosmo,

Just curious do you actually go to the bars in downtown Roanoke? Whenever i go to the area i'm usually in Saltori's or Cornerstone. So if you ever see a couple of asian guys in Saltori's or Conerstone its probably me and my bro's.

I go sometimes. Unfortunately, most of the people I hang out with always want to go to Corned Beef or Awful Arthur's. Nothing wrong with those places, but sometimes I feel like I don't meet the dress code.

Deep Creek's cool, i lived 45 min from there. if you go around the 4th, it will be pretty crazy. ppl from all over MD, VA, PA, WV, etc. go there for the fireworks and boating. only a handful of decent bars though. Black Bear would probably be your best bet, watch out for all the local bitches, damn money grubbers. just watch the cops on 68 when you get to Garrett County. i may go back home around that time so let me know if you need more info.

Never been to either but i have a bunch of friends who go to smith moutain every year and rent a house boat and party all weekend long. From the stories theyve told me its a pretty good time. Seems like there are alot of people there doing the same thing. They would just get a bunch of people together and dock the boats close together and through a big party on the boats.
