Question Need help deciding which gauges I should get

I'm about to install my turbo kit and I need help determining the gauges I should get. I am looking for budget gauges that fit the Autometer a-pillar pod that fits 2 2-1/16" gauges. Of course a boost gauge, but which? also..i am looking for white faced. i have been looking through carparts.com and they have mechanical and electrical gauges. what exactly is the difference between the 2? accuracy? also what about full sweep gauges? I am thinking of the second gauge being either an EGT or air/fuel gauge. which would be better for a turbo kit with an SFC? thanks for any and all help.

edit: do i need to buy anything other than the gauges themselves? suchas senders etc.?

I am running the following:

Autometer Phantom Mechanical Boost
Autometer Phantom Electrical EGT
Autometer Competition Weld in EGT probe
Autometer Phantom Electrical Fuel Pressure

You will need a probe for the EGT. I believe the AFC can display A/F ratio, so the EGT would be a better choice.

Do you have a MY00-01 or MY98-99? IIRC, If you have a MY00-01 the AFC won't do much for you. You need a hi-flow fuel pump and a fuel pressure riser to run moderate boost levels. The AFC won't do anything for you other than give you the ability to lower fuel settings. This is due to the voltage clamp (or check valve) that limits the input the ECU sees from the MAP sensor. Since this voltage is limited the AFC can't make the needed corrections to allow enough fuel when under boost.

I have MY00. Its the Hyper Field SFC and it comes with the kit. (This is a used kit I got in the classifieds). And yes it comes with a fuel pump and I am buying a RRFPR. Which gauges would you recommend and could you tell me the best place to purchase them. And also whats the diff between mechanical and electrical?

If you are getting a RRFPR it would be very helpful to get a fuel pressure gauge.

I would recomend the fuel pressure, boost, AND EGT (the probe for EGT is seperate). You can mount them kartboy style if you want two in the pillar.

Full sweep just means the needle can travel further than 90 degrees, so it gives a little more detail in the reading as more points can be identified.

I would get a mechanical boost gauge (do they make an electric one?) and electric EGT and FP.

If you get the mechanical FP it CANNOT be mounted inside the car. The electrical one is much more expensive, but can be mounted inside the passenger compartment.

I found http://www.carparts.com had the best prices on Autometer Phantom gauges before you added the coupons. When you add one of their coupons (usually 10-33% off) you can save some good coin. I got mine from carparts and it took just a week or so to get them all.

I'm going to go with J&S knock sensor dual display, EGT and Fuel Pressure...and of course boost.
