Default A/F Gauge in a N/A, Which O2 sensor?

I've read about how WRX's need the sensor to be put in the rear, But I was wondering which one I have to use for my little 97 OBS. I installed it in the front one and the meter goes crazy, I guess that is the computer constantly correcting the a/f ratio?
Any advice would be apreciated.
