Default Waiting list at Gillman in Austin...

The reason for this thread is that I would like to know who is on the STI list at Gillman Subaru in Austin, Texas. I have a feeling that this dealership will definitely markup the STI's if given the chance and all I want to do is give us on the list a fighting chance. So if any of you out there are on Gillman's list than please respond to this thread and we will try to come to an agreement with the dealership. I already contact a few others and they seem to be willing to cooperate so that all of us could get a fair deal...

I had a negative experience with them where they committed verbally to a $750 over invoice price for a blaze yellow at launch, and when I went in for the paperwork, they kept backpedaling and wasted my time until I just walked out. At one point they were saying that they couldn't do that because they didn't know what the gap was between invoice and actual pricing... which doesn't make sense when you're paying $750 OVER invoice, but that's how they were. Finally they tried to tell me that I would have to wait an extra few months if I didn't order right then. The next week I placed an order (with two friends) over at North Park Subaru in San Antonio without any hassle whatsoever.

I basically don't like they way they do business at Gillman, but I've heard people with ok experiences as well.

But let me tell you I have had first hand experience with them and it was the ultimate in shady the poster above got off easy. Watch you back with the pricing/paperwork and do ALL your homework before you walk in tell them how its going to be and if you smell a rat have the discipline to WALK OUT! I do hope it works out for you and I didnt want to upset or make you mad you asked now and before whats up and Im trying to give you my firsthand knowledge. If you ever need help turning a wrench on that thing Id be happy to help

Didn't you already determine they were going to mark it up?

Once on an Sti:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hreadid=326675

and on an Evo:

posted by rsx2sti:

BTW, my local mitsu dealer just called me and he was begging me to buy an evo8. He had said that they were willing to lower the price to MSRP. I just laughed my ass off and asked him what had happened to the 8k markup? He was kinda quite for a second then he said, "We aren't selling as many as we had hoped to..." Last time I checked they had only one evo and now he said that they have 6 of them laying around for about a week... ...thats what u get for trying to mess with the knowledgable consumer...

Why are you still buying from these guys?

Default no man...

rsx has claimed to been screwed by Gillman on two occasions. I was just in agreement with you remembering his past problems with this dealer.

i'm concerned for his well being if he thinks it's gonna be different this time.

Wow, I am really grateful for your concern guys. I is true that I did post about this issue before and I have contacted some other dealerships in the state to see if I can get a fair deal. I found a coupel but I would have been WAY down their lists. I have come to terms with the fact that I will have to wait a couple of months after the STI is released before I even have the option to buy it. So with that in mind I moved on and tried to forget about it...until a couple of days ago. Gansan contacted me through pm and throughout our corespondence I have learned that he is 2nd at Gillman and his friend is first. So, I decided what the heck, I'll just keep my deposit at Gillman since its refundable and I'll try to contact the people on the list at Gillman so we can all come to an agreement and walk in there demanding MSRP or bust. To be honest I am kinda starting to feel like you 95mpower, in the sense that I am getting sick of the runaround that I am getting from all these dealerships. So if I sell my car this summer and I can't find myself an STI, I think I will have to opt for an evo or an rx-8, but I really rather not think about that. I have always been one to settle for the next best thing and I really hope I can break that trend this summer.

I hope you break that trend too I spoke with the other person I know on the waiting list yesterday and he will post up here when he gets back from vacation.

Just to let all you guys know who keep insisting that these dealers have their mind set on a markup and there is no hope......I also had placed a deposit on an EVO a long time ago and was #1 on the list here in my city. When it arrived I went down took a look at it and started talking to the salesperson. They started off at a 10K markup and within a couple hours I had him down to $200 under MSRP. Needless to say I walked out but this just goes to show that one can get what they want fairly easily.

True dat Gansan,
I had a similar experiance at Gillman in Austin with the evo, since they are a mitsu dealer as well. They started off with an 8k markup and by the time I had driven the car and gotten over the hype they were begging me to make an offer and the car had just gotten off the trailer! Probably could've gotten it that night at msrp or less, but then again they didn't have a waiting list for the evo...

My point is that greed works both ways, if the dealer is stupid enough to think that people who actually know whats going will pay a $8k markup. then that same dealer is too eager to make a quite buck and will sell if he has a chance.

The best guy at Gilman has no moved down to San Marcos. Ronnie Bevers was solid with my experiences. He got my my WRX wagon at invoice price and no hidden extra's. He has always gone out of his way for me, Just a shame he is at Gilman San Marcos which is Mitsu only for now as they have just opened. Maybe in a year when I look at the STI they'll be doing Subarus then but thats some time off.

All the dealers have been quoting 10-11 people on the list but thats not really the case. Its going to be who will pay the markup first and then we'll deal with the remainder.
You have to expect this with a new car that has a lot of hype already behind it. The EVO wasn't really hyped much and dealers want 8-10k+. It's the price you pay for having the latest and greatest. Even dealers that have said they will sell for MSRP will be adding markup so don't go by what a salesman says, he's just trying to make some easy money, and if you don't buy it someone else will.

I was about to say the same thing, the only reason I dealt with Gillman in any capacity was because of Ronnie - I dropped off the list a few months ago...interesting that he's moved to San Marcos, I might give him a shout and see what he can do for me with an EVO

The rule I now have, it's not a one off (i.e. 22b) they are making more, once the hype dies down and they realise that gouging is not going to help the situation, it will calm down on the pricing front and they will have to talk turkey. At the end of the day, cars sitting in lots does not earn dealers money, they have to keep them moving, and with the pretty dire state of the car buying economy, they cannot afford to destroy a potential sale with stupidity.

Bide your time, you will not be dissappointed...

You guys are making a lot of sense. If you're "happy" to pay MSRP then the dealer has already won. They make a killing at full ripping retail. Deal up from wholesale, not down from MSRP. I don't think I will pay more than $400 over invoice for my STi. It's just not worth it to me when I know I can wait two months and name my price with the economy in the ****ter and the Summer slump in car sales.

These lists of 10-12 people will shorten very quickly. How many people are on more than one list? How many people are going to get cold feet and back out? How many people will realize this car isn't in their budget? As long as we the consumers refuse to take it up the ass the dealers will have to come down to meet us.

It's the people who are willing to pay the markups that make it hard for the informed consumer to do his or her shopping.

I'm hoping that all the Subaru Dealer trying to mark up the STI will get burned and no one will buy there marked up STI from them. Those Subaru Dealers will quickly recognized that and have several STI in the lots, kinda like the EVO's. They will be beggin to sell the STI for MSRP. Let the BOYCOTT BEGIN

I had absolutely no luck with any of the Austin dealerships when I bought my WRX last year. I ended up going up to Temple and Sean sold me exactly what I wanted for $100 over invoice. When I buy an STi in a year or so I'll go back up to Temple.

PS Since we're all in Austin, who is the guy in the blue sedan with darkish wheels that I see every day on 2222 going the opposite direction? You know me, I'm the *other* guy in the blue sedan.

Yeah, I drove up to temple a couple of months ago asking about the sti but they said that they were only recieving two for the whole year... ...all the other wrx's they were selling were going for invoice or little over, which was pretty tempting...

Anyways, I agree that dealers make a killing at retail but I expect them to be a little more cooperative if we agree to pay that price. I mean if you have a person that is willing to pay you what you want for a car that hasn't even been released yet, then why do you have to screw them over even more....anyways we will not really know what is in store for us until the day we go in there and confront them.

Oh, that's too bad temple isn't getting more. They sure were nice to me, best car-buying experience I've ever had.

When the time comes, I'll probably call all the dealers around San Antonio/Austin/Houston and see who offers the best price. Gillman blew so much smoke up my ass I will never buy from them on general principal. Car dealers need to accept that there are informed consumers out there now. Don't tell me "oh these cars are really hot, we're selling $1000 above invoice" when I've seen the same cars sit in your inventory for a month... The emails between myself and the salesman at Gillman were really funny.

I had EXACTLY the opposite experience. North Park were the most rude bunch of people I've EVER meet. They didn't even act like they wanted my business (didn't come and help me, reluctantly gave me a test drive and answered questions, etc). I promptly drove 1.5hrs to Gillman where I was treated like the a valued customer.
