A few years ago, I used their Z2000 R-compound tires. The are assymetrical and directional. So there is a left and a right. Since being R-compound tires, the grip was phenomenal compare to performance street tires. Tread wear was 80, which is not bad for a tire of that type. The only downside was the fact that the biggest size they had was 195/50/15...

Hancook make performance tyres? Only versions we get here are cheapies that I wouldn't put on a normal car, never mind a performance car!

IMO, fit the best tyres you can afford - what's the point of having a great performance car with the cheapest tyres you can find?

Yeap, go check the Hankook-Toyota rally championships... They have a gravel and a tarmac tire

Default Hankook Ventus

I was considering the K104. Grassroots magazine gave them a favorable review and they can be found for reasonable $.

Isn't Grassroots a music magazine?

I'm considering the Hankook k104's at the suggestion of my 'tire guy', and looked here (nasioc) for reviews and experiences.

but... Grassroots magazine, I would not consider a music magazine much of a resource for a review on tire performance.

Maxx

edit: foot in mouth. okay, I see that there is a Grassroots Motorsports magazine. (Americas Sports Car Magazine)

Hey, they thoroughly test tires using a high-performance, highly modified VW bus, you should see that thing auto-x.
Paul Westerberg gives the K104s two thumbs up.

I have a set of Hankook performance tires on my WRX in 215/45/17. I guess I have the low end model they are Ventus HR 2. They are fairly decent tires on wet and dry pavement but suck very much in the slightest amount of snow. The tread seems to be holding up well considering I drive extremely spirited and have had them for about 20K miles now. I can tell at this point in their life that they are starting to lose a little grip but I think a good spirited kind of alignment could cure some of that. They are also a little noisier than what I prefer but they are a directional tread what can you expect. Anyway, my overall review says I probably will buy a better tire next time.

My concern is that the tires will be great in the summer, but lousy in the winter.

I'm not sure yet if I'll have a dedicated summer and dedicated winter tire due to not much room to store them in the 'off' seasons.

No plans to race, so I also don't see much need for that much of a performance tire (Y rated).

And on top of that, they're more expensive than the other tire I've considered, which is the Continental ContiExtremeContact.

I'm thinking that the Continental would be a better all around tire, useful in winter and summer, and less expensive.

Maybe it's not even a fair comparison... I don't have a lot to go on yet.

Hancook also now offers contingency money for SCCA national tour

they are trying to break into the US market big time
I looked at thier tires at SEMA, they looked nice and had a new R-compound tire that they said will come out soon
