Unhappy Just saw the stupidest thing. Poor Suby

Coming home from school someone was stupid enough to TOW a Subaru (Around a 98 Legacy Outback) with TWO WHEELS ON THE GROUND. I wanted to cry. Every time the truck moved, the front wheels would start spinning in the air, but they never got up to more than 5mph (while the rear wheels were going 45+. It was just a duallie dodge pickup with a towtruck type setup in the bed. I wanted to pull up next to them and tell them that because of their stupidity, they just destroyed their transmission. I could tell their center diff. was already shot, regardless of whether its a 5MT or 4EAT.

how exactly does it mess the car up? If it's in neutral shouldn't it be okay?

It would seem like that.. If you have a 5MT, AND the front wheels can spin freely, then youre in lots better shape than if they are stopped. But it will still take miles off the center dif

If the front wheels are stopped, what happens is the viscous fluid in the center dif (or the clutch packs) try and keep the f/r speed the same, and that is impossible, so the dif eventually wears itself out and in no longer effective.

itsallgookx51: Why was youre car towed? If you were parked illegally, then thats youre fault...if you requested the tow then the tow company should pay for all damages.

You can still make them pay for it. They are allowed to tow your car, not destroy it.

Yeah, they towed a friends turbo 911 a few years ago and he got full reembersement but he had to get a lawyer to write a nasty letter, around $15K or so damage...Lawyer cost was around $250. It never went to court...If damage is $5000 or less you can do small claims court.
