Did any of you guys get your cold clutch shudder fixed?
If so, which dealer did you go to? And what'd you tell 'em? Just wondering, please respond.

I took mine to Carlsen, I was getting shudder, but that's not what I took my car in for. I took my car in because I was getting a CEL (the one that early WRXs got that meant the ECU needed reflashed to be less sensitive) I also noted a rattling noise I would get on lifting the throttle at 1-2 psi or so.
They test drove it and said I was getting clutch decel noise. They said they'd replace the clutch assembly, and mentioned it would also get rid of the shudder I was probably experiening in the morning (which I was, but made no mention of to them.) I hadn't noticed the decel noise. It turned out the noise I noticed was the turbo heat shield rattling, because it was still there when I got my car. I later diagnosed it with my brother to be the heat shield, and can't find a way to eliminate it without removing it. That was at ~23k or so that I took it in. I'm close to 50k now, and definitely do hear a decel noise sometimes. The shudder is also back at times, it took 20k on the new clutch before I noticed it, and it's been rare. Also, my heat shield still rattles when I lift with 1-2 psi in the intake. Oh well. |

Thanks for replying. Dagnabit, well, I'm going to my local Albany Subaru tonight, gonna leave my car there at 8:30p or so and maybe they can check it out in the morning. I guess I'd rather have that better clutch part than my old clutch plate and flywheel etc.
Hopefully they make the order for the parts and install anyway. |

Ok, I guess I'm crossing my fingers that they're gonna replace 'em.
Albany just said they'd get the "updated parts" and put em in for free, just hope they really do, and that they don't just say it and not do it, just for the fact that I had to tell them to what extent the shudder annoyed me. Dang. |

Picked up my GD impreza today from Albany Subaru. The tendency to shudder/shake seem no longer there. Looks like the clutch doesn't have to be depressed as much when starting from still. If this was to be my first manual car, I would say that the new clutch makes it easier to learn MT.
I should say that it feels like a different car, in terms of how the clutch responds moving from still. There seems to be this sensation of granularity, for the lack of a better word. I'm not sure if I can describe it, but it just feels different. All in all, I'm glad I asked for replacement. I'll post some more if there are worthy notes to add later. |

Any reasonable service rep would agree to repair / address your concerns as long as the request is reasonable. For Albany Subaru, I have found that the service rep there to be good to deal with. Then again, I bought 2 of my 3 subarus there, but I don't think they make that distinction. |

Actually, when I left my car there for a 15,000 maint. check, I told them I'd leave it with them so they could try to reproduce the clutch judder. Well, when they tried, they didn't feel the "shudder." I basically just told them that it comes and goes, but it still bothers me about 3 or more times a week. The service rep said he'd talk to the master mechanic there, then he'd call me back. I don't know, but after 15 minutes the service manager called me back and said he'd be able to replace the clutch etc parts with updated replacement parts. So, I don't even know if it'll be the correct parts. Anyway, I'm at 17,800mi, and I emphasized that I wanted to rid myself of this problem before the newcarwarranty ends. So there's my life story.

Clutch is a "wear" part, and if it's defective, I think they only are able to replace it within 36,000mi/5(or 6 I forgot) year new car warranty. I looked through the other threads and people said it didn't seem to matter whether or not they had the powertrain warranty, as only the new car warranty would allow them to get that shudder fixed. But what do I know, if you want, you can check them out yourselves.
