I'm thinking of accenting some of my interior with some...where can I find? Is there some kind of "fake" suede, it feels like it but really isn't?

There are several microsuede fabrics, which are synthetic suede. I'm in the process of getting some samples of Alcantara, which is the highest quality of the bunch. It's not cheap ($75 a yard), but it's worth it. This is the stuff that comes standard on the STi interiors.

You might be able to get a Katskinz(sp) seat kit and have it installed. I don't know if they do suede or not.

Check with local fabric stores. They may be able to point you in the right direction or order you some. Alecantra is good as is ultra-seuede. Luckily I already have STi VI seats so I'm all set but I may want to recover the rear seat to match so perhaps I'll make some calls. I'll let everyone know what I find.

God,
You can get the actual STi rear seat fabric from Mike Shields at SPD Tuning, but costs like $650!!! That's why I'm ordering the Alcantara and having it sewn in to the rear seat centers and door panels to match my front STi's. -Mike. |

Thanks Mike. I'll be importing Subaru JDM parts soon so hopefully I'll be able to scrounge one up for cheaper.

you will have no luck finding STI seats unless they are used. I have looked, called, emailed, etc...
I finaly just bit the bullet and bought some WRX seats from the aussies. They are just like the STI seats minus the suede fabric, you can get them for like 300-400 bucks plus shipping. They do the job just fine. |

From the vantage point of a sewer, I'd want to know if the suede sloth can be cleaned without leaving water spots, and how well it wears compared to the real suede. Also may want to know the fiber content, whether polyester, etc..
Also, synthetic would be hot to sit on for long periods for seats compared to real suede, I'd think..... |

The synthetic suede cleans up easily. I had them wet cleaned and there is no discoloration or anything. It will wear but lasts longer than real suede which is why manufacturers use it. I had alecantra JDM Type R seats in my old ITR and they were very comfortable in the summer.

Aren't cheap??? That's dirt cheap!!! I got my STi seats today and have to have them cleaned (they were used). The alecantra is only in the middle portion so I think the WRX seats are the better value.

I did what WRXwannbe said. I actually got a set of 2001 Australian WRX seats (which are the same as the JDM STi seats, just without the alacantara and STi stiching). I got both the front and rear seats (not just covers) from a 2001 WRX for about $780 US. Shipping those things aren't cheap...

It would have cost me about $750 to ship those seats (the full set on front and rears) from Sydney to Hawaii, that is uncluding insurance and Customs clearance. I decided to use my uncle, who works for Qantas Airways and gets a huge discount on shipping up to 100 kg, to have them shipped on the airline. I am expecting arrival sometime next week.

I hope you mean 750 all together right? |
