Best to look into the rules for the class you'd like to run and see if you qualify. There are more than enough links to rules on this site if you search for "SCCA Rules"

a great deal of stripping is allowed under street modified rules. including rear seats, radios, air conditioners, carpet, racing seats.

Unfortunately, the cams will push you all the way to SM. Too bad, as your car is otherwise pretty well prepped for STX. (EDIT: I missed the torque converter - that would push you into Street Prepared, even without the cams.)

Well, at least you have lots of room for additional mods in SM.
You can add a turbo & sticky R-compound tires, and STILL be legal!

Are you thinking of coming out to this weekend's events at PIR?

If so, Street Modified would run in the morning. Street Tire would run in the afternoon. You could run TSM and be indexed with everyone else that runs in Street Tire. Or you can run in Street Modified with Tim Werner's Valiant (which was just featured in GRM, by the way.) Whichever floats your boat. Either way, noobs should be out to have fun the first time out. Who cares about results, anyway?

Registration at 7:30, first car out at 9am. Even if you don't run, come and check it out. The big track will have SCCA Road Racing going on. I'm chairing Saturday's show, so I'll be there all day long. I'll be running with the PAX class in the afternoon along with several other Scooby drivers. Hopefully Sean Ross, Chris Prall and Chris Hartman can all make it out to the event, too.

This weekend my wife and I are coming out for Auto-x, I was a passenger twice last year for Hozay, and my wife took her Jetta once at the last event of 2002. So we bought helmets and are ready to have fun co driving my car. I look forward to meeting everyone. We may not be able to do both days (2 year olds are rather time consuming) but we will make it at least once.

You're choices are EP, EM, or SM... don't plan on being comeptative in any of them. With more suspension work, r-compounds (full slicks, not DOTs), and some weight reduction you should hang locally, maybe divisionally, in EP (assuming you've fixed the nut behind the wheel). SM is a pay to play class, locally you might do quite well; divisionals, pro, nats you'll be competing with cars with close to six figures in mods/development. Go out, have fun, learn to drive your car to its fullest and you might be surprised.

I think he meant STS since you have an RS.

Actually, I meant STX, as the high-flow cat would put him there. FWIW - RS's may currently run in either STS or STX.

In any case, it's academic, as he has other mods that push him out of ST altogether.

Andy is now a witness to what your little monster is made of.

cheers to you for playing fair

You'll be spending all day at PIR with your running one half of the day and Jetta running other half. At least you'll have a designated babysitter while the other races.

ENJOY!

Hozay...

Are you showing the east coast folks what I taught you out west?

Wish you were here... except its supposed to rain all weekend. I won't get a dry weekend in before the Nat'l Tour event in Atwater. How am I supposed to learn the new front sway bar and wider tires?

Talking Mhhmmmm.... Jacked this thread is.

Hozay...

This will be the last year that my car runs in GS. I've decided that next year we're going to autocross the RSX-S in GS (provided it get's reclassed as proposed.) The RS will become a DSP car. Imagine all the tweaks that you have with all the grip that I have. I'm also saving my $$$ for a BS Porsche Boxster, probably an '05 model.

I ran well enough last year to earn a year end trophy in the PAX class. 4th. I finished behind Chris H., Mark D. (GS Neon) and Jim D. (ES MR2.) Chris and Jim trophied at Nat's (I think both were in the top 10) and Mark finished 18th or so. Chris was the only guy I didn't beat all year. I think I got Mark and Jim on days that were Scoobyrific, but those days didn't give me an advantage over Chris.

Even in a small club, #2 in the PAX is no small task. Congrats! We'll miss you this weekend. We're in the Paddock and I'm designing one of the courses. That lot is very Scoobyrific with all of its bumps and as I recall, you won STS at that event last year.

Later,

Andy

i seriously missed norpac when i was shoveling the 3 feet that fell out of the sky this winter.

A 3.2 liter RSX-S?!? I haven't heard anything about that. I doubt there will be even a 2.2 liter model. (Though there is rumors of a Honda S2200 coupe, that would be 2.2 liter)

The current model is a 2.0 liter car and the engine is not all that wound up. They could push another 40 hp out of it and then it would only be an S2000 engine. I suspect the rumored RSX-R will get the S2000 engine and push 240 hp in the same chassis. That will probably be a CS or DS car, depending on gearing, weight, etc.

Andy

PS - Sean R. is already running his car in DSP when the weather is nice. He's got coilovers (or are those oilcovers?) on his car now, too.

Default rain, rain, rain

I'll probably be passing on this weekend. It is the choice of standing and racing in the rain all weekend, or working on the Fiat. I feel particularly Italian right now...so Fiat it may be.

Hey Andy...I'm signed up for Atwater in BS. No word from Cobb, so screw them I'll just have to do a little advertising for Porsche

If for some reason you want to try my 245 tires on the front at the NT, I could bring them down. I'll have room.

Thumbs up Yep... definitely hijacked!

Chris,

Nice ride! I'm a little jealous. You'll have to tell me how nicely it drives (while Heather is standing there, of course!) to help me convince her that a Boxster is the car to get.

On the other hand, I see that Joe and Anna are signed up to run GS in their A4 2.8. I may just take you up on the 245/45's. I might need all the help I can get to outrun Joe.

I can't blame you about this weekend. A rainy weekend in the Paddock isn't good for anything except Scoobies winning their classes. That lot is sooo bumpy and soooo slick when its wet... a Scooby can't help but win!

Andy

PS - right now, the sun is out.
