Default Head gasket leaking issue

It's not a Subaru. It's a 97 Chevrolet Venture. I hope you all knowledged people on this board can help me out.

Here is what the dealer found.
1. Engine overheating gauge high
2. Head gasket leaking
3. Lifters bad
4. Oil coolant intermix

They said the cost is around $1800. Seems like a bit over-priced. I had my Mazda MX-3 head gasket and spark plug wires replaced which cost me around $300.

Do you think it's way too much? What should the cost be? I'll call a few more place and see what they charge me too.

No. That is why I hate transverse V6 engines. One whole side of the engine is inaccessible.

I would not be surprised at all if they had to pull the motor to take the head off...

if you can do the work, I'm sure a rebuilt engine would cost about $2000... Altough $1800 for a head gasket and lifters isn't bad for a fwd v6 at a respectable shop... That's why I don't go to shops.
