Default Fully built N/A engine in my car finally!

You guys probably remember me posting this mod list over 4 months ago, and finally its a reality! You gusy diddnt think i was a liar did you ?

Ok, the random tec cat was taken off and replaced with a stock cat until i get a new random under warranty. also the 9lb flywheel diddnt go on b/c is diddnt come in, so i have a lightend stock flywheel on (14lb). the 9lb will go on next week or maybe the week after, it has to arrive first. It revvs very quickly with the 14lb flywheel and the lightend/balanced crank, I like that a lot for sure.

THE (pre break-in) REVIEW:
Ok, we were given the green to rev to 6,000 after 50 klms by everyone (the shop who used these pistons in just about every car says no problem), so it was tuned to 6,000 rpm after 50 klms.

It's alright below 4,000rpm,it isnt torqueless, still good useable power. After that it pulls very hard to 6,000, reminds me when it had only heads/cams and ported intake manifold (a bit faster actually). But the car is fun already! They also said it will get better and faster as it breaks in and after 6,000rpm it will really scream. Its runs very very smoothly,not too loud but good and rumbly.

It was given a very basic tune for break in as well as a very safe tune...in other words it isnt tuned for power in mind, only safety for the engine right now. Im also running 91 octane gas, after this tank i have to put in 94 all the time, and 94 octane with tuning will show good results. So even with the car just barely touching the powerband, not tuned for power, and a tight engine which will get faster it still puts a huge grin across my face, so I have good hopes for the nest tuning session.

I go in for tuning up to 8,500 rpm on friday after it has 500 klms on it (it will, trust me!) and it will be completely tuned for power. I cant wait until i can go to full redline and feel what it really has and what its designed for. They said I will not be dissappointed, it is designed for top end power and with 94 octane, tuning and a broken in engine it will be great (I really hope).

Im so excited to drive it around now, and everything is going fine. It really itches to go when it climbs to 4,000, but im very nice to the engine. I also have piston slap when cold, but thats not a problem it goes away once warm of course. It also drinks gas like crazy and 94 octane aint cheap.

Im driving all i can! I look foreward to finding parking in this city for once.

The numbers will come as soon as I can possibly get them, i will give a netter review once she is fully tuned, i am finishing the break in process tomorrow. Anyway, guys Ill keep you posted! I cant wait to get some 94 and tuning in there. There will be #s#s#s!!! Later guys!

Thanks guys! Im still getting used to piston slap when its cold, you can't hear it outside the car much, only in the cab under load. A small price to pay!

Im doing the last part fo break in today...250 klms total so by firday when i go back to lachute for tuning the car will be ready.

I cant let the car idle ever for the whole 500klms becuase I need to keep the oil pressure up. Every light stop at I have to tap the gas and keep the rpm's at 1,500 rpm or so and all these other cars think im racing them...its pretty funny.

Anyway, hopefully ill have the 9lb flywheel on next week as well. That si going to rev really quickly, with the 14 lb flywheel its pretty fast.

I didn't see injectors on your mod list. You do have em right?

Your engine is incredible!! I've been waiting for someone to go all out and build an all out N/A beast. Finally!

Chav- So far fuel is no problem with the upgraded fuel pump, and during tuning fuel was the easiest part to map, so so far there isnt any fuel issues, but if there are we have WRX fuel injectors just in case.

The piston slap is laways there on my car...I asked and they said that due to our enigne designs, piston slap will always be evident (but its less when its warm, but still there). This was a surprise to me, but I guell ill have to live with it!

Im glad you guys are interested in what Im doing, it makes me feel pretty good with the route I chose. Thaks for the encouragement guys, Ill get you some good #s I promise (hope)!

Klms on new engine: 450! Too bad i have to wait tillf riday to get retuned, I think ill get the 9lb flywheel installed in the meantime if it arrived. That will be quick revving I bet.

Goose! Its been a while man!

Sure we can go for a drive, but lets wait until I get it retuned so you can get the whole idea of the car, right now its as fast as it was when you drove it before, but thats due to safe tuning. anyway, if you give be a call/pm next weekwe'll set up a time and place to met up! BTW, i finally got the grill from cardin 555, so now you'll like the front of my car.

Couldnt you change the throttle stop screw to increase the idle? Then put it back to original location once you are done?

I couldnt remember but you might get a CEL if using the stock ECU since the TPS will never activate the idle switch.

If there is a Idle air control valve like much car, you'll need to turn the screw a lot to makle the idle raise while the valve is completely closed. my gm mpfi worked like that, never checked for the 2.5 but should be the same. you can use paint mark to replace the screw near standard position, it's easier this way.

No, your confused. NOT THE IDLE SCREW! The throttle stop screw is what I was talking about.

Be careful, as two throttle stops exist.

Hey Dan. I am glad to see that you have it on the road. My car is still going to take a month or two. I just flowed the intake side of the heads with the Cobb cams in it and got 244 cfm. I am going to finish up flowing the exhaust side and figuring out what I need to port out and then I'll port and do my 3 angles on the valves. Tell me how the tuning with the unichip goes. I think that I am going to get one b/c I am also going to need something, I'm just hoping to be able to use all of my stock sensors with this dual throttle body intake. I guess that I'll find out some time in the near future if it will work. Good luck with it and keep me posted as to your progress.

Are we still on for that race to determine who has the fastest N/A Impreza once mine is finished??????

Nathan- Yes I am still on for the race! The unichip tuning so far has been a snap, no trouble at all for us, the fuel was the easiest to tune.

Those head numbers, are you using any spacers when flowing them? I could find our flow numbers from the shop and we can compare them when you finish if you want.

So far everything is going well so far, Ill tell oyu what the real story is after we do the last tune on friday and get the 9lb flywheel in the car.

As keeping the car idling high, it looks doable, but I just called today and i have 500 klms on my car so they said I can let the car idle now, but not for a long period of time, but thatns for the idea, I would have never thought of it!
