Default Satellite Radio?

Just wondering but has anyone here in Vancouver tried Sirius or XM Satellite. I just picked up this deck Clarion DXZ635MP at A&B Sound and i guess you can sign up for the service through them. It is not offically available in Canada but they have something worked out with Sirius. The cost is something like $15 CDN a month (no contact) and it has almost 100 channels. I just wanted to see if anyone else has tried the service yet?

Do a search on NASIOC about sat radio service, I've read that they just repeat the same program over and over again through different channels at different time. Most people say it wasn't worth it.

Well it can't be any worse then the radio around here, they play the same crap over and over again. Atleast i would have a few more choices to what i would want to listen to, but i am wondering is how well it works around the lower mainland.

The guy at A&B says downtown it can get kind of bad because of the buildings. I am not Downtown a whole lot so it wouldn't bug me.

Do you already have the module for the sat service? If you do why don't you sign up for a month and try it and give is a review. =)

Do you still have to play the monthly fee if you have the deck ready for the satellite service?

Yes, you'll have to pay for monthly service. It just means that the deck is capable of reciving satellite radio info. I remember a few years back when they say satellite radio ready they mean that you can add an addapter on to get service but it cost more than a hundred bux for that addapter.

To have the radio you purchased work with Sirius you need one of these http://www.clarion.com/sirius/siriusfm.htm which is the satallite radio tuner which goes for around $150 US.

I am a XM radio user and have been to Van a few times with it and it has worked quite well, and believe me for the $10US I spend a month it is better than any radio station and there is a whole lot more variety.

You only pay when you connect your receiver to the service.

EDIT: I just called over to A & B sound and the guy told me its about $400 worth of parts to get it to work. So i think i may have to hold off on the Sat. radio if thats the cost.

Yup at full retail that sounds about wright, including the antenna which retials for about $119US and the receiver which retails for $199US, now of course if you are willing to buy it from the US I have found both pieces for around $200 US.

Mmm, i will have to see what the exact cost would be if i went through the shop here. I mostly listen to the radio so it may be worth it.

Apart from the sat radio issue, how do you like this head unit?
