Default STi Competition ???

Just got back from the local drag strip today and there were
three Evo's there, two were racing. Best 1/4 time was 14.1
seconds and the average was 14.5. Trap times were around 98
to 100 mph.

Needless to say, I was not impressed - stock WRX's were running
the same speeds. Slightly modified WRX's were in the mid to high
13's.

I'll post some pics after I get my USB reader working. The best
race was NSX vs Ferarri 355.

Nope, NSX. They were bracket racing. However, straight time was only .1 second difference (13.8 vs 13.9)

Hi,

Stock EVO's,on 93 or 94octane pump gas. are running mid 13's. Pruven performance ran a 12.59 two weeks ago with mods. I'm not sure what you drive, but I'm impressed.

Must have been some super ****ty drivers with the Evo(s)
Go to evolutionm.net and check out the times people are running...most are inexperienced at drag racing and they're still pulling 13.4-13.6@100-103 STOCK. Most people running those times have areas that could use improvement..such as better launch, not to mention they are running full weight with 3/4 tank of gas, spare tire, jack, etc. all in the car. I think real soon we'll be seeing 13.2-13.3 1/4's stock.
One that ran his had never raced a stick before and still turned 13.7
The Sti should be a little quicker but an Evo running 13.3 stock is no slouch.
Btw, there are several Evo's that have $500 in mods such as axle back exhaust (no cat back), mbc, safc...running 12.5's

People are turning the boost up bast 19 psi??? I don't know about you, but that sounds a little unsafe to me. What can the stock turbo on those things handle?

Most say that you can go up to 22 psi on the evo turbos. Not exactly sure how safe that would be. Some of the internals are forged on the 2.0 I think the 2.5 has more forged (for example the connecting rods are foerged on the evo but not the pistions like on the sti. Still we have ALOT of room to grow since we are only at 14.5 psi. Most also say that you can run about 350 or so on the stock evo with out upgrading the internals. I would say you could probably go up more than that by about 50 hp on the sti motor for a variety of reasons.

I believe the times I saw over what someone said they ran on an Evolution forum. That said, perhaps it is driver, but I wasn't impressed either way.

Hi,

The 16g starts losing efficiency around 22psi and up, so not much reason to push it higher.

Don't be a troll dude .. I'm getting an STi but I still give props ...

Go to a PCA track event and see how slow most of the drivers go lolligagging around the track ... doesn't mean that I'm not impressed with the Porsches ... just means I'm not impressed with the drivers.

FACT: People have run mid 13's in the Evo VII
FACT: Not all Evo's put out identical HP
FACT: Drag racing ain't as easy as it seems. MANY people won't run low to mid 13's even if the car can

so give respect where it is do

a 13.1 is damn impressive .. mid 12's with hardly any mods is damn impressive .. that's 993TT territory

I am super hyped about the STI .. but I am still tempted by the Evo

Yup with crappy 1.88-2.0 60ft on cold track I ran a 13.5's on 93/94 gas.

http://forums.evolutionm.net/showthr...threadid=19128

Most subaru guys should be happy. I mean with 300hp, the STi should run 12's with that kind of gearing

My bad times could be due to shifting at 6500rpms. Perhaps 7000rpms will provide better times and better trap speed like others have

Must have been the drivers then, either intentionally or not (i.e. were babying their cars or just couldn't drive them properly).

I was expecting the Evo to run around mid 13's.

troll v.,n. 1. [From the Usenet group alt.folklore.urban] To utter a posting on Usenet designed to attract predictable responses or flames; or, the post itself. Derives from the phrase "trolling for newbies" which in turn comes from mainstream "trolling", a style of fishing in which one trails bait through a likely spot hoping for a bite. The well-constructed troll is a post that induces lots of newbies and flamers to make themselves look even more clueless than they already do, while subtly conveying to the more savvy and experienced that it is in fact a deliberate troll. If you don't fall for the joke, you get to be in on it. See also YHBT. 2. An individual who chronically trolls in sense 1; regularly posts specious arguments, flames or personal attacks to a newsgroup, discussion list, or in email for no other purpose than to annoy someone or disrupt a discussion. Trolls are recognizable by the fact that the have no real interest in learning about the topic at hand - they simply want to utter flame bait."

I am not a troll, nor was I trolling. I posted because I was surprised to see how poorly the Evo performed at a local dragstrip. In fact, I have yet to see any Evolution 8 performance numbers published in any magazines and I do not read Evo forums. Even if I did read Evo forums, I wouldn't necessarily count such information as fact (or STi forums for that matter).

Perhaps I would have been trolling if I had posted this in an Evo forum. Nah, not even then.

Man, I gotta go back. It's just the principle. It's like finally 50-70 degrees here and I feel i have to run at least a 13.3 just reclaim my pride as a driver. I can't believe he is that much fast. I think i'm going to launch it harder with first shift at 6500-6800rpms and 7000 after that. I will try his method of driving and see what i'd get. Hopefully my advans will grip at >50 weather

That's impressive. I'd be happy if my car could pull low 13's. But then again I am driving a 95 del Slo (for a few more months)

Unfortunately, he hasn't provided any time slips. I'll admit it sounds great, and I know the Evo 8 can run in the mid 13's, but his story relies on so little substantiated facts that it's eventually going to turn into a flame war.

I was instructing at BeaveRun this past weekend, and an EVO was there. I have no idea if it was stock, but it was smokin' fast.

GTr did run 13.5 at 101.8mph with a completely bone-stock evo

I was there. So folks, it is possible. His best launch was 1.88 60-ft times so he could improve on that and possibly get a 13.3

However, his evo only drank 94 Octane gas and dynoed at 240whp, 253 ft-lbs.......I don't know if the 91 or even 93 Oct fed cars could achieve his times.

Fast stock car. Still, Sti seems to have the bigger bolt-on potential for more power. Lower boost, max torque at a lower rpm (I think(AVCS)). And most importantly, no more uppipe cats on all 2004 wrx/sti s. Sigh, those things are going to be so easy to mod. Slap on a UTEC/Xede, turboback exhaust with no cats and man, we should be looking at a 100HP flywheel increase ( hopefully the turbo and injectors don't max out before that)

Ridiculous, I say.
