Default If you were going to buy an SUV which one would you buy?

I'm looking for an SUV or truck but I can't decide which one I want. I like the aftermarket styling of the Escalade, room and styling of a Harley Davidson F150 or the room and durability of a GMC Yukon midsize or the styling and quality of a Porsche Cayenne. What else is good?

I personally think the Tahoe is a great SUV. Mom and brother both have one, and I love every chance to drive one. Great vehicle, no problems so far, and a decent price...

Orignal Hummer in flat black with none of that sissy leather interior or anything. Oh and its got to have the old metal hatch rear end.

I just replaced my impreza with a truck. The cratered moonscape my town refers to as a road was destroying the RS. Coupled with the fact that I have had to rent the Home Depot truck more times than I can count illustrated the need for a 4x4 truck. I'm not a big truck person though. I can't imagine piloting something the size of the Nimitz around all the time. Not to mention the gas a big truck blows through. As a result, I settled on the Toyota Tacoma limited, with the TRD suspension setup. I have all the ground clearance of a much larger vehicle without lugging around all the extra weight of a full size truck. It easily accomodates the 90% rule (it's large enough for 90% of the stuff I need a truck for). And with the bilstein suspension setup in the TRD package, it isn't a complete turd on tarmac either. All in all with the high and low gears, diff locks et al. It's actually better in the snow than the subie was.

Lightbulb If Toyota made....

...a turbo-diesel version of the Tundra in a supercab, I'd be selling my WRX wagon today. A turbodiesel Sequoia would rate a close second too.

I'd love to be able to tow some of the other toys with a decent Truck/SUV. I'm of the impression that diesel is the way to go in regards to towing though....

A pre-emissions testing American V8 big block 4X4 with a trailor hitch, dual exhaust, glass packs, some 33in tires and railroad ties welded together to make the front and rear push bumpers.

Oh yah and it should probably have dual gas tanks and bench seats. Gun rack will be optional.

Seriously though what the hell are people buying trucks or SUVs for? If its for towing then get a diesel like was already mentioned, if its for playing in the mud and off road then get something older and free of the BS with the state and if you want something big to drive around town in get a big car cause theres no way in hell a SUV is practical if you live in the city and use it as primary transportation.

What I love is everyone telling this guy what to buy when we don't know what the owner will be using it for.

If you're not going to need the utility of an SUV, then stay away from teh SUVs.

well if i had to get a truck/suv i'd get just that a truck/suv, i'd get an avalanche...

although i'd really like to have a big V8 pickup truck and lift the hell out of it, and put some big super swampers or something on them, and there is no option on the gunrack, it's absolutely nesiscary.

(for those wondering that last paragraph was actually true)

Hmmmm...

It all depends on your price range, but here goes:

Large SUV, the 4Runner is very nice.

Sporty SUV, the X5s are hard to beat, though if you only have 3.0 money, I would look at something like a Volvo or Infiniti instead.

Small SUV, turbo Forester...no question.

Ditto, if you think you need a truck-based SUV, get a 4-door truck. The 4 Sierra are some of the best on the market.

My choices, based on what I would use them for:

1. Canyonero, nuff said (points go to the first person who can recite the song...).
2. BMW X5 4.4i, or 4.6is (I owned a 4.4i for about 1.5 yrs, very nice)
3. Infiniti FX45. X5 4.6 performance at X5 3.0 price.

Another vote for the Canyonero! Seems like the perfect SUV!

Can you name the truck with four wheel drive,
Smells like a steak, and seats thirty five?
Canyonero! Canyonero!
Well, it goes real slow with the hammer down
It's the country-fried truck endorsed by a clown
Canyonero! Canyonero!
Hey, hey!
Twelve yards long, two lanes wide,
Sixty five tons of American pride!
Canyonero! Canyonero!
Top of the line in utility sports,
Unexplained fires are a matter for the courts!
Canyonero! Canyonero!
She blinds everybody with her super high beams
She's a squirrel-squashin', deer-smackin' drivin' machine
Canyonero! Canyonero! Canyonero!
Whoa, Canyonero! Whoa!

I'm just using it for driving around town. I've always wanted a big truck or SUV. Not necessarily because I'm going offroading, never have been, probably never will. I just want something where I can sit in traffic and kick back and relax just like being at home. Maybe throw in a DVD or a watch TV while sitting in rush hour traffic in downtown Los Angeles.

I don't necessarily think SUV's are overrated. It's a trend and that's the trend right now. America is the only country though where big seems to be better. I always hated that idea but I had one instance that made me want to buy a bigger car. I bought a 17 inch monitor and COULDN'T FIT IT into my WRX. I was so pissed to have to take it out of the box. It's a 17 inch monitor!

But come to think of it, I don't think I'll ever forgive myself if I don't get an Evo 8.

X5 -- I'm thinking about. Need to see some mods first.
FX 45 is sweet.
Same for Porsche Cayenne Turbo.
