Default Help me out with Painted Headlight Mod

I read on scooby mods that oyu need to put the headlight into the oven, to pop the clips off... Do i really need to put it in the oven, or can i just get the clips off after i take the headlight out of the car?

Also, is this a difficult mod to do, or can it be done in 1 saturday. What kind of paint should i use for this mod?

Thanks for the help..

You must stick them in the oven. Just follow my directions and it will work for ya. Just dont forget about your headlights when they are in the oven and you CANT melt them. Trust me. Also make sure the oven is set to the correct temp.

Dood, you really should search, this has been talked to death........but I'll throw you a bone.

You have to either use the oven or a heat gun (hair dryer probably takes too long). There is a strong sealant holding the two halves together that you have to soften before you can pull them apart. You don't remove clips - one half of the light has a bunch of nubs on it, the other half has tabs that overlap the nubs. After the sealant is soft, you have to lift the tabs off the nubs while pulling. The tab and nubs are only secondary to the sealant in holding the halves together.

Use whatever paint you want but don't choose the cheapest off the Walmart shelf. You do NOT need high-temp, despite some other opinions - plenty of people haven't used it and it's fine. This mod is easily a half-day job but plan on it taking more than you think so you don't rush through the actual painting portion. Multiple, thin coats (as with any paint job) is the secret to good looks and durability.

If your really scared to do the mod, some people sell thiers after doing the mod, ..like myself. Just got a set of Sti lights, so mine blacked out look headlights are for sale. PM me if your interested. Doing the mod yourself is actually quite easy as long as your patient. I've done it 3 times now and never had a problem, ...just be sure to seal it back up good!
