Default No A/C In STI (according to Impreza lit.)

OK, first let me pre-emptively WTLW myself, since I'm sure someone has posted this already. However, I frequent the forums and didn't know.

*According to the 24 page Impreza literature* the STI has for A/C "---" Which the key says "Not available"

Am I the only one who didn't know that? Or is this source incorrect?

Default OK I'm a chowderhead

OK I'm dumb

I should have read the next line that said "Semi Automatic A/C" and indicated the STI comes with that standard.

So now, I guess my question is, is the Semi Auto A/C better then the "normal" A/C?

the reason why the lit says the STI has no A/C is because it has semi-auto climate control. it is much better than A/C IMO.

so don't worry you will have that cold air

This is what the JDM and ROW WRX's have instead of the "manual AC".

No AC belt means foggy windows in cold rainy weather.

I don't think your alternator would appreciate that

I think there will be an on-off button for the AC. The way I understand, semi-auto implies that it holds a certain temperature, like 20C. I think the difference between "semi-auto" and climate control is that climate control is usually more advanced, 1C(or F) increments and multiple climate zones etc...

I know This may be the only reason I would keep AC in my STi...

how much power can A/C sap? you can turn it off when you're looking for max power, and turn it on when you're in cruise mode, right?

Pretty much, but it does add some weight, if that matters to you.

Many cars have an a/c compressor cut-out when they are operated at full throttle. Anybody know whether the STI has this?

WRX does so, it's likely.

The A/C saps a little power all of the time because you're still spinning a pulley. If you were to remove the compressor and all of the associated plumbing I would expect to see over 50 pounds saved. Add a new (usually much lighter) aftermarket exhaust, take out the spare tire and jack, remove a few other things and maybe you can't get the portly STi below 3000 pounds

Sure, I understand that aspect. More power to the people that want to go this route. I think i'll be happy with the stock weight, and the stock power will be more than adequate for me.

At the very least, it is in the new brochure that dealers have.

Thanks for posting this. Subaru just added a bunch more stuff to their media site. I just checked last night and there are a few more STi items now.
