Post C-West Grill/Grille Install

This is a thread for installing the C-West front grille. The steps I wrote up are based on my experiences and mistakes. I will post my pics when I have them developed. Stay tuned.

If you have comments, questions, or contributions, do not hesitate to post here. Please share your experiences with this mod if you have the same item.

Refer to the following links for diagrams.

1. Paint and clear coat wire mesh (if desired).
2. Position wire mesh in front of grille; bottom part of mesh through the prongs of the grille; bend down all prongs.
3. Put screw+washer into each of the bottom holes of grille to hold mesh to grille.
4. I suggest that you position the grille onto the car to see whether you need to sand off the bottom-left and right corners of the grille to prevent the grille from rubbing onto front bumper & also prevent the top of the grille from rubbing onto the hood.
5. For upper holes of grille, will fasten screws+washers into holes of the plastic extensions from the carís headlights.
6. For upper holes of grille, you need larger washers (the given washers appear too small and can slip through the hole of the headlights).
7. Use 2-sided tape to hold nut+washer onto a screwdriver (or something else long in order to extensively reach into back of hole of headlight. IF you have a small & long enough arm you can reach in through the upper part of the front bumper grille to get behind the hole).
8. Position nut+washer behind headlight hole that should also be already behind the upper hole of grille.
9. Get shorter screws for the upper holes (the given screws are much too long and will hit the chassis before you can finish screwing it in. I used ĺ inch machine screws with matching size washers because I donít know where to get those kinds of screws like those given, which need hex wrenches rather than simple flat-head screwdrivers).
10. Put upper screw+washer into each of the upper holes of grille, to connect with the nut that you are positioning on the back side (this is very tricky!).
11. Re-touch paint on scratches and on screws+washers. Done!!!

Why can't products come ready to paint and install... Why is it that one the supplied install hardware isn't quite right and that one must mock install the grille in order to see if it needs trimmed for fit and finish. For $125 for a grille you'd think all these things would have been resolved.

I like this grille don't get me wrong, I'm just upset to hear that install isn't a direct swap like it should be.

I do love this grille..but if I knew the kind of effort involved way before I got it, I may have gone with a genuine Subaru product instead, which should simply snap in like the one that comes with the car.
