Default 5w30 in your WRX??

I took my 2003 WRX in to the Subaru Dealership for its first Oil Change and I found out that my dealership uses Quaker State 10W30 as a general rule on Subaru Vehicles. I pointed out to the service rep that the Subaru OEM recommendation is 5W30 and they should change their practice to reflect it.

I was wondering what anyone else in BC or Canada, or even in the southern BC interior is getting at their Subaru dealership for Oil Grade.

Technically, at high temps (at 100 degs C), both 5W30 and 10W30 possess similar viscosity properties. At low temps, is where we see the benefit where 5W30 is lighter.

Is there a case to push this dealership to change their Oil Specification to 5W30? if so, can you please help me build the case.

Thanks

Why do you have to make a "case"? If you want 5W30 then tell them to use it for your car.

You can always bring in your own oil, unless you don't trust them. Does Kamloops really get that cold that you need 5W30?

i guess different dealer uses different oil (sponsor source?) The two I have experienced with use valvline and another one uses mobil!!.

based on where you are located the temp should drop to pretty low during winters so I would use 5w30. Though 5w30 and 10w30 won't make a major difference in hot weather but in winter you definatly want a smoother one.
