Default no one did a GFB BOV review

well I was looking for one before i had one, so I figure I'll put in a quick 2 cents. I picked up a used hybrid BOV setup. I have it set to 100% atmosphere (mainly because i didnt see how to set it to 50/50) there is No CEL. It sounds amazing, but i think im going to set it to 50/50 to make it a little quieter. The install was quick and easy. everything bolts up perfect. I did have to cut the stock zip tie in back of the intercooler to allow for more slack from the hose to the top of the bov (yes i dont know the technical terms) Overall I know it has no performance gain, But since this is my first turbo car, I wanted the novelty turbo sound. I can swear my turbo is a little louder now. You can also hear your wastegate a little more.

1st off to do the 50/50 you have to take the outlet from the stock bypass and use it on the gfb one. My two cents on this bov is that mine leaks boost, I have some boost graphs that are like crok screws. I have heard other saying the same thing, so I ordered the hks one.

My WRX came with a GFB BOV hybrid installed from the dealership. It has done nothing but leak boost. And by that I mean 50 mph in 4th gear I can hear the woosh of air escaping from it. Just purchased an HKS because it's annoying me so much. It'll be nice to feel stock boost finally.

Hi xenocide248,
I'd be more than happy to help fix the problem with the Hybrid valve - more often than not there's a solution that can be done in a matter of minutes.

Let me know if you'd like some help with it!

Best regards,
GFB Pete

My wife has the Stealth Fx on her STi and it hasn't leaked boost at all. Running 20psi on Stage 2.....the only hard part was adjusting the spring so it didn't blow off or bypass too late or too soon

Hi subydrivor,
Did you meet up with Brett Turner from GFB at the SEMA show? He tells me he did receive an email from someone he met at SEMA asking about a washer and responded on the 23rd November after returning home. If you didn't receive his response, let me know and we can sort it out.

If that wasn't you, can you describe your Hybrid valve in a few words, as there have been a few different versions, as follows: Earlier types had a chrome cap with no spring adjustment, after that they had spring adjustment via a chrome knob, then they moved to a hex key spring adjustment screw.

I'm sure we can help you, either way!

Best regards,
GFB Pete

I've got one of these now, but I seem to be missing the parts to make it 100% vta or recirc. It's set at 50/50 now.

Hi guys,
Subydrivor, Brett tells me he has received the email you sent recently, and replied yesterday. Please let me know if you haven't received the reply for some reason.

Joeleodee, can I just confirm exactly what type of Hybrid you have, as per the quote below:

"...there have been a few different versions, as follows: Earlier types had a chrome cap with no spring adjustment, after that they had spring adjustment via a chrome knob, then they moved to a hex key spring adjustment screw".

In addition, the later versions had GFB WRX Hybrid engraved or on a sticker on the cap.

I'll need to know this before I can recommend the parts you'll need to make it recirc or atmo.

Best regards,
GFB Pete

It's actually for the Legacy GT. It's got the hex key spring adjustment screw and reads GFB GT HYBRID at the top. I believe Part # 1015

Thanks

Hi Subydrivor,
I don't know what the issue is with the emails! All we require is your postal address to move ahead. Rather than posting it publicly, I suggest you email it to sales@gfb.com.au - we seem to be receiving your emails ok.

Joeleodee, for your valve you'll need a screw-in plug, part # 6107 - that one blocks off either the trumpet or the recirc outlet, and for full atmo you'll also need a plug to block off the recirc hose as well as the outlet, which is part # 5530.

I'd suggest a phone call to our North American agents, Global Performance Parts to source these items in an expedient fashion. Their details are:
***********

Ph: 616-399-9025
Email: sales@globalperformanceparts.com
Web: www.globalperformanceparts.com

Thank you for the response. I will go ahead and contact them. Bofore I do, however, I have read that a lighter spring is recommended when switching to a FMIC. What is the part # to the lighter spring and is it in fact recommended?

Yes, the required parts have been sent airmail, however due to Christmas I'd allow a little extra time for delivery - I've been told small packages (as opposed to cards only) can take over 2 weeks by airmail, plus we did have a postage worker strike here just before Christmas, which doesn't help!

Joeleodee, the lighter spring helps in that it makes the valve open more easily to prevent low RPM flutter that can occur when significantly increasing the intake volume by going to a FMIC. However, the lighter spring can ONLY be used when the valve is set to full recirc, otherwise you will have idling problems if venting 50/50 or full atmo. The lighter spring is not REQUIRED in terms of turbo longevity associated with low RPM flutter, because low RPM flutter is typically not detrimental, but if you want to get rid of that noise it's the only way to achieve it. The part # is 6116 if you want to try it.

Best regards,
GFB Pete
