Default Which is it, silver or gunmetal?

I don't want silver wheels, I want gunmetal. Now I am reading silver all over the place. Which is it going to be? They are NOT the same....

You can call gunmetal a shade of silver. You could always buy a new set of wheels if you have to be that dead set on "gunmetal". They make em daily!

The wheels could be bright orange and I'd still take the first STi I can get my hands on.

Your gonna have to wait and see. "Silver" could be any shade of silver, including gunmetal.

The reason people say the gunmetal is more or less silver is because of the pics that were shown in the email survey SOA sent out months ago. They were asking what our preference was for the color combos, body and wheels. The 'gunmetal' wheels look like your regular old silver to most people who saw the survey.

Either way, I think the wheels are hideous and they'll be seeing racing duty only. Aftermarket is the only way to get the color and wheel you really want.

The car posted in this thread is in Europe, I believe. These are some dark wheels. I don't know if they are stock or not.

Did you say JUST? Congrats on your 2005 STi just kidding, but seriously I hope you were already on their list or at least you came in under 20th. It may not matter anyway. I'm sure that a lot of the people ahead of you have not made a deposit, and you will be advanced.

No I said just if I got to wait I got to wait. But my dealer does expect to get 8-9 sti's in the first shipment as well as the second and if anyone backs out the car is passed down the list for msrp to the next person who is signed up for that color wheel choice. In Houston there are 3 big dealerships within 20 miles So I dont think the wait will be as bad but we will see soon enough, I just hope to get one by september.

P.S. Im 23rd at this dealer but the 2 other dealers have not started to take down deposits so I could be higher at one of those.

For the SoA dealers (dunno bout SoNE) they can't actually place orders is what I've been told, but they can make requests.

My guess is that the dealers that are taking color combonation request is that whether or not subaru honors the request when the car comes in it will go to the first person on the list who is requesting that color/ wheel color.

Right, I have not seen any VON (vehicle order numbers).

Dealers are just taking the money and making people "feel" better. At least my dealer (Carter/Joe Spitz) tells me exactly what is going on.

Those r gunmetall..
Gunmetal = darker than silver..
Wanna know what gunmetal is?
Think if silver rims after racing for 3 dayz and having brake dust all over the rims - that is gunmetal color. It's dark (as seen in that picture).... I like it though... I'd take my STi gunmetal over Gold

I'm quite familiar with the conventional difference between the 2. I had steel grey Rotas on my WRX. I'm just saying that in theory, gun metal can be called silver (like a square can called a rectangle), its just a bit unconventional. Since that car is all stock from appearance, it could suggest that gun metal is actually the other option over gold, even though that STi is not USDM. I have a feeling that gun metal and gold will be the choices. Bright silver or dark will suit me just fine. dark preferred.

The EDM 2003 gunmetal wheels aren't quite as dark in person as they look in pictures. They are darker but certainly not as dark as the above black STi picture. If the light hits them right, you can barely tell a difference. Somebody put a set on a deep blue mica WRX here, and it looks pretty good.

If we get the same wheels as Canada, which IMHO is highly probable, they will be silver, not gun metal.

Check out the link (also posted in a few other threads) showing a bunch of different colored STi's which have recently arrived at a Canadian dealership. The original poster said they were bound for the press.

Beat me to it

Maybe the USDM STi will have gunmetal. Glenn says that it is stated that way in the new brochure. We'll just have to wait and see, I guess.

Yea those pics really look silver... I wonder how black and gold would look. That's a darn shame because gun metal would look better on any of the colors IMHO. I know, I know, you can always buy aftermarket wheels, but the more things you need to change the closer the price gets to $40G's... which is a bit on the pricey side. Has anyone tried to contact their dealer and alter their original color combo request? If so, let us know how that affected your allocation position. I'm going to call my dealer tomorrow and see what he says.

I only had 2 questions for the subaru guy @ the NYC auto show.

1) how many this year?
answer: 4000

2) dammit is the "other" rim color silver or the darker gunmetal.( I said what does it look like not "what's it called by SOA".....)

answer: silver

I was not psyched but I figure SOA has not let us down yet 300/300, DCCD, $30,9 it was bound to happen.
Look at it this way, of all the things they could f up-

A nice set of P1s for most of the year (the stock tires will fit right?) and the stock BBSs for the winter with blizzaks(sp?)

keep saying "it could be worse" cause ya know........you could be driving an EVO
