Default The Bourne Identity...one of the best movies I've seen in a while

It was very cool. My only real complaint was that it seemed short, I wish it was drawn out some more...

I know I'm probably the odd one out, but I think Franka Potente is hot.

I went and saw the Bourne Identity in the theaters just because she was in it and came away really liking the movie.

And yes Donnie Darko is some pretty messed up stuff.....whoever wrote that had to be coming off of smack.

the movie is crap compared to the book

The movie should be called:

"Based loosely on some plotlines in the book, The Bourne Identity"

i got the dvd as well, but my gf accidentally picked up the full screen (not letterboxed) version. damn.

giga, you're not alone in your love of franka. believe me. mmmm, franka.

i haven't read the book, but i plan to. in the meantime though, i believe the movie is good enough to stand on its own. the book is almost ALWAYS better than the movie. who cares?

W3RD!

dimitrik, it's not that the book is "better" than the movie. It's that the movie leaves out several very important aspects of the story. Like why Jason Bourne is an assassin, who he really is, how he came to be "Jason Bourne", etc.

Read the book, you'll see what we mean.

Have you book readers read the second and third book in the "Bourne" series? I'm reading the second one right now. It's good so far.

Yeah, the movie is set 30 years after the first book and as some have said based loosely on some of the plotlines in the book but it does stand pretty well on it's own. Apparently the movie is a remake. Anyone seen the original? ( http://us.imdb.com/Title?0094791 ) Sounds like it follows the book more closely.

-Edit: To be clear. The movie is not 30 years after the story in the book, it's just the book is set in like 73(so it seems) and the movie is set in 2003.

yeah, the Matt Damon version is a remake. The original has been on TV a lot, but never when I'm sitting there wanting to watch a movie.

But, the new one was pretty good. Entertaining. As for bitching about it not being like the book, well, that's just not at all original. There are a few movies that are based on books and, in fact, follow the story very closely. Most of them are movies based on a book. I figure that an entertaining movie is an entertaining movie.

Read the book. Saw both movies. Neither does justice to the book.

The main reason I wanted to see the Matt Damon version of the movie was the hype I heard about how great the car chase scenes were. They weren't all that good.

I think I'll pop my copy of Ronin in the DVD tonite and see a really good spy thriller, with jaw-dropping driving.

Yup, read all three of the books. The third book The Bourne Ultimatum is the worst of the three but still a good read, IMO.

I agree, the movie is entertaining the way it stands. I was just hoping they'd followed the book a little more closely. It's tough to feel sympathy for Jason Bourne when all he is is a hired gun. You are drawn much more into feeling that characters pain and struggle in the book, because you find out who Jason Bourne really is and why he does what he does.

Plus the chick is supposed to be a Canad1an economist, not some homeless Russian girl who lives in her car.

I suppose this book inspired the Gina Davis movie "A Long Kiss Goodnight"?

i think that ends up being the case in almost all book-movie comparisons. books, by their nature, can involve us more in the characters' lives and emotions than can movies. it's why very, very few movies follow the books on which they are based very closely...

i try never to really compare a book and a movie straight up b/c it's apples and oranges....actually, more like apples and chicken. you can eat both of them, but really, that's where the format similarity ends.

i've read books that i enjoyed much more than their movie counterparts, and vice versa.

i thought the movie did a fair job at portraying the protagonist as a sympathetic character...you never really saw him as a cold-blooded assassin, even after his identity was revealed. delving more deeply into Jason Bourne's pain and stuggle might have been entertaining and compelling, but would have changed the entire character of the movie (as well as made it much longer!).

They needed to have the Carlos the Jackal character involved somehow, though. You could have easily added that part of the story and how Jason Bourne came to be and why. Seriously, that would've added less than 30 mins to the movie and would have explained things a lot more. Ah, well. Maybe they'll come out with a prequel explaining all of that?
