My AVCR used to read around -400 mmhg vacuum when the car was idle and could got up to about 1.1 kg/cm^2 (15.7psi) for maximum boost.
Now it reads -20 mmhg all the time, even when I floor the throttle. No boost builds up but I can hear the turbo spooling and the wastegate fluttering. Any ideas on what I should check on before I assume there's a major problem here? Connectors, hoses, sensors, wiring, etc? My mods: APEX'i AVC-R set at 14.2psi for daily driving, Skunk2 3" Exhaust, Godspeed Uppipe & Downpipe (completely catless), Samco IC Hoses, UTEC (installed but untuned, running stock map 0) I also posted at clubwrx; I'd really like to get this solved asap. Thanks for any help.

FIXED
the avcr solenoid (the clear round plastic thing. it's connected to the wastegate with a little hose. this one said APEXi on it so i know it's an AVCR part... is that the solenoid?) split apart into 2 pieces and wouldnt snap back together so i electrical taped the 2 halves =======[]============(___) ---hose----solenoid---hose----wastegate ? boost builds up, back to -400mmhg vaccum i did however lose the little paper filter thing inside of it when i didnt know what it was. it fell into the engine bay and now after driving a few miles is probably lost forever . anything wrong with that? if anything air should pass through better right? and it seems like it's a closed-off hose so i doubt the filter is really necessary, but let me know if im wrong please! |

another reply to myself
i lost boost again though it was building slightly (like 1-2psi), checked under the hood, and i guess even though i thought i had waay overtaped it from before i guess the heat melted the sticky stuff of the tape and it was hanging a little loose i got more taped and sorta did some figure 8s using the tape more of a string to tie the 2 halves together and then taped it up some more. hope it holds this time. also if anyone knows how important the filter thing that i lost is please fill me in. ill let this thread die now if nobody replies ![]() |

don't know the avc-r, but you sure it was a filter and not a restrictor? you can also use zip ties over the electrical tape to keep it on.

If you are referring to the clear smooth micron filter element included with the AVC-R kit, ditch it.

yes, the clear plastic thing. that's what broke
thanks for letting me know what the hell i broke, just a POS filter ![]() and its now leaking after i tied the hell out of it. i was boosting fine for a while but now max boost is .7 (about 10psi) so it's obviousely leaking out some air should i just connect the hoses and leave the whole filter off? electrical tape seems to be failing in the hot area under the hood but that could be just because its being taped to plastic whats the best way to put it all back together w/out disrupting the airflow? |

If you have any extra hose in the kit, reinstall that hose with a entire new one.
Try to stay away from fixing that cut hose which the filter was on. If you have no extra hose you will need to get a barb fitting to complete the hose and connect the two peices together. Use zip ties instead of tape on any hoses or vacume lines. |
