Default 17x8.5 tire size, is this right?

I'd run 245 if at all possible.

Yup, I'd go for 245/40 17 or if you're worried about rubbing then 235/40 17. 235/45 17 is moving your gearing in the wrong direction if you ask me.

Calworld, most tire manufacturers recommend a minimum of 8" wide wheels for 235/40 17s and 7.5" wide wheels for 235/45 17. The 235/45s might work but like I said that is moving gearing in the wrong direction. You're probably best of with 225/45 17s on a 7" wide wheel.

Yes I know that the offset is different... Another wrx that lives near me runs the same setup, with the same offset, just different wheels... his handling, alignment, camber is perfect... ofcourse with upgraded suspesion stuff, but for the time being, ill be fine
